Visa Cash App RB driver Daniel Ricciardo has claimed he would completely understand if the Red Bull stable got rid of him at the end of the 2024 season. The Aussie returned to the Red Bull family in 2023 when he was appointed the team's reserve driver and later replaced Nyck de Vries in Hungary last year at the sister team now called VCARB alongside Yuki Tsunoda.
However, he has been under pressure for his seat at RB as he had a slow start to the 2024 season compared to his Japanese teammate. Although his performances have improved in the last couple of races, the threat of getting replaced by Liam Lawson has remained.
Speaking with Mirror Sport, Daniel Ricciardo mentioned that Red Bull have been 'firm but fair' with him and his stay in the outfit would be performance-based. He said:
“Red Bull were always firm but fair with me. If they were to get rid of me, I’d be like, ‘Okay, it’s for a reason’. I know they would never just get rid of me if I was doing really well, so everything is within my control.
“And I think that brings me so much comfort as well, that they are so performance-driven that there’s no other bulls**t – it’s up to me. They definitely make me feel that way, and if I do well, who knows what could happen?”
Daniel Ricciardo analyzes his Belgian GP qualifying performance
RB driver Daniel Ricciardo stated that he felt 'good' during the Belgian GP qualifying session on Saturday (July 27) but was disappointed with the P13 as he believed that he could have reached Q3.
As per F1.com, the Aussie driver said:
"Today I felt good and thought we would be better than 13th; I’m disappointed with this result but happy with the session and the pace we had, as I generally think we were a Q3 car. In Q2 the rain started to come down a bit more, so we chose to set the time a bit earlier in case it got worse.
"At the time we felt it was a good decision and we were able to improve our lap time a little bit, but it didn’t work out for us as the rain stabilized enough when we were at the garage, and everyone was able to improve." he added.
The high-speed nature of the iconic Spa-Francorchamps does not suit the characteristics of the VCARB01 as the car prefers slow and medium-speed corners. But Daniel Ricciardo is confident that in the dry conditions in the main race, he could move up the grid and make his way into points.
The eight-time race winner has amassed 11 points this year and the race on Sunday could decide his future in the sport.
