McLaren driver Oscar Piastri claimed that he had more room for improvement despite winning two races in a sophomore year in Formula 1. The Aussie driver held his own against his teammate, Lando Norris on several occasions throughout a competitive 2024 season.

The 23-year-old showed consistency throughout the 24 races and six Sprints as he was the only driver to complete every lap of the season and ultimately finished P4 in the driver's standings.

However, Piastri was outscored and out-qualified by Norris on most occasions and was unable to extract the maximum out of the MCL38 as his British team. Speaking with GPBlog, Oscar Piastri recognized that he had a good second year with the Woking-based outfit but could still improve in several areas, saying:

"I think a good improvement from my rookie season, but still room to go. I think a few races at the start of the season, a few races more recently have not gone as well as I would have liked.
"And I think also as a team, there are some races through the year that we would have liked to have executed a bit better. But I think especially in the middle part of the year, I was very happy with the level I was performing at."

Oscar Piastri pinpoints an area of improvement for the 2025 season

McLaren driver Oscar Piastri stated that he believed that qualifying could be an area where he could improve for the 2025 season, as he was inconsistent throughout the 2024 campaign as compared to his teammate Lando Norris.

The Aussie had an underwhelming 20-4 deficit over one lap to his teammate in 2024 and was unable to get any pole positions, while the Brit got eight, only behind Max Verstappen. Piastri's two race wins came in Baku and Budapest, where he started from P2.

As quoted by the aforementioned source, the two-time race winner said:

"I think I showed some pretty clear progress from last season. I think mainly in qualifying, I've made life too difficult for myself this year, but I think last year in a lot of the races, I wouldn't have had the tools to get back through.
"Whereas this year I feel like I have. So I think on a personal note, it's been a good improvement, but still some room to go."

Oscar Piastri had an excellent middle phase of the season from Austria to Singapore, where he was challenged for podiums and race wins consistently against the likes of Mercedes and Ferrari.

Given the upward trajectory of McLaren, Piastri could be a driver to look out for in the 2025 season, which would be his third in F1 and might be in contention for the driver's championship alongside Norris.
