Mercedes junior driver Kimi Antonelli and Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman recently compared American popstar Taylor Swift to Shakespeare while cracking a joke about the singer.
The duo are part of the Prema Racing team in Formula 2 this season and are two of the most highly rated junior drivers in the sport right now. Bearman impressed everyone with his one-off appearance at the 2024 Saudi Arabian GP, finishing P7 after replacing Carlos Sainz. Antonelli, meanwhile, is in contention for the Mercedes seat for next year to replace the departing Lewis Hamilton.
In a video uploaded by the Prema Racing team on YouTube, Antonelli and Bearman spoke about Taylor Swift's continued impact on pop culture, with Bearman saying:
"I studied Shakespeare, in 400 years from now, there are going to be studying Taylor Swift, she is the new Shakespeare."
To which Antonelli replied:
"We love you Taylor."
The Ferrari junior further joked:
"Everyone moved on except Taylor Swift, she’s still living in 1600… Except her private jet. I heard a lot fo stories about that. Have you seen the memes though? Taylor Swift on her way to her bedroom from her living room jumping in a plane."
Ferrari star Charles Leclerc heaped praise on Ollie Bearman after his impressive showing in Jeddah
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc claimed that it won't be long before Ollie Bearman joined the F1 grid following the latter's performance in Jeddah earlier this year. Speaking with F1.com, the Monegasque said:
“I think everybody has seen that, but obviously having him in the same garage, seeing how he worked and how he approached this whole situation with so much calm was very, very impressive – obviously with so much excitement as well.
“But it was really impressive. I think he has shown the whole paddock what he was capable of and I think after a performance like that, it's a matter of time before we see him permanently in the Formula 1 paddock.”
The chances of Bearman joining Ferrari are slim for the next couple of years as they have signed Lewis Hamilton to race alongside Leclerc. However, he could join the Italian team's customer Haas F1 in the 2025 season as a potential replacement for Nico Hulkenberg, who is in talks with Audi.
