Haas F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg recently used a goat emoji to congratulate Max Verstappen on his win at the 2024 F1 Brazilian GP. Other drivers also congratulated the Dutchman for his brilliant drive at Interlagos where he won the race from P17.
The Brazilian GP was quite tricky for all drivers, particularly because of the torrential rain after the sprint race. This forced the race stewards to postpone the qualifying session to Sunday itself. In the wet qualifying session, Max Verstappen was unable to improve his lap time in the Q2 session due to a late red flag caused by Lance Stroll who lost control of his car and crashed into the barriers. Hence, Verstappen was eliminated in Q2 at P12.
Before the race weekend, it was confirmed that the three-time world champion would also receive a five-place grid penalty for new power unit elements. This resulted in him starting the Grand Prix from P17.
Max Verstappen was on the charge the moment all five red lights went off. In the opening lap itself, he gained six places and went up to P11. By Lap 10, he was in P7 by overtaking the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Pierre Gasly, Fernando Alonso, and Oscar Piastri.
When he was P2 during a virtual safety car, Franco Colapinto's severe crash into the barriers brought out a red flag, further improving his chances of winning the race. After the restart, Max Verstappen was able to overtake race leader Esteban Ocon and retain his position to win the Brazilian GP.
The win at Interlagos ended a long 10-race drought that Verstappen was experiencing in the 2024 F1 season. Delighted by his performance, he posted several pictures of his race win on his Instagram account. Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg reacted to the post with six goat emojis, which usually signify the "greatest of all time" phrase.
Apart from Hulk, drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso also congratulated the Dutchman.
Max Verstappen shared his emotions after winning the Brazilian GP
After winning the race at Interlagos, Max Verstappen shared his emotions. Speaking in Parc Ferme right after the race, the Red Bull star said that the Brazilian GP race weekend was a roller coaster for him since he had a poor qualifying due to Lance Stroll's crash and red flag. The Dutchman was not expecting to win the race from P17 but praised his team's pitstop strategies and decisions that allowed him to do so.
“My emotions today have been a rollercoaster. You know, with qualifying, being really unlucky with that red flag and starting P17, I knew that it was going to be a very tough race. But we stayed out of trouble, we made the right calls, we stayed calm and we were fine. All of these things together of course made that result possible. I mean, unbelievable to win here from so far back," Verstappen said.
After the Brazilian GP, Max Verstappen leads the drivers' championship table with 393 points, while Lando Norris is in second place with 331 points.
