Zhou Guanyu appeared at the 2024 CS2 Perfect World Shanghai Major Show match. He shared pictures with renowned Ukrainian gamer s1mple.
Less than a week since the end of the 2024 F1 season, Guanyu showed off his other talent as he made an appearance at the show match at the Shanghai Major. This was the second Counter Strike 2 major championship and the 21st CS Major overall. Guanyu's presence was celebrated as he is the first and only Chinese Formula 1 driver to date.
"What a cool experience to play the show match on the final stage with all the goats!" Guanyu wrote on Instagram.
This was the first time that a CS2 tournament was held in China. Teams competed for a prize pool of $1.25 million. With around a million players watching the game, the viewership spiked to a record high. Team Spirit were crowned the champions.
Zhou Guanyu, the special guest, debuted in F1 in 2022 with Alfa Romeo and continued with the team till the end of the latest season. However, the team will be coming up with a completely new lineup in 2025, dropping both Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas.
The team suffered a lack of competition all season and it remained out of points for almost all the races. Guanyu was the only point-scorer with his P8 finish in Qatar, bagging four points.
Zhou Guanyu reveals Ferrari "interested" in him for 2025
The 25-year-old does not have a seat for the next F1 season. While his teammate Valtteri Bottas might think about stepping away from the sport, Zhou Guanyu spent only three seasons in Formula 1, that too, not behind the wheel of a very competitive car.
However, he hasn't lost hope for the future. Speaking to the media early in the season, Guanyu revealed that he was looking for options, and that Scuderia Ferrari was seemingly interested in his services.
"We’re talking to several teams and, of course, Ferrari remains one of the teams really interested in me," Zhou revealed. "We need to see, obviously there’s a lot of things coming up with the next few weekends for us to make a decision, but it’s clear we are going through all the options we have and seeing where we are."
“From my side, I don’t want to commit to the future just yet because I want to make sure everything is set down and is clear, and have a massive commitment to the next project. Hopefully something will be happening and decided soon. I think somewhere around the next few weeks I will have a clear idea."
If the Italian outfit does decide to sign him for 2025, he is likely to join as their reserve driver. The team will be running Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc at the front.
