Former F1 world champion Damon Hill was full of praise for Ferrari's final farewell to its driver Carlos Sainz at the end of 2024. The Spanish driver ended his tenure with the Italian team after the season finale in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which culminated in a four-year association that started in 2021.
Sainz also achieved a few personal milestones in the four years as he had his first win and pole position with the Prancing Horses and ended up with four race wins and six pole positions.
Ferrari posted one final farewell message for the Spaniard on Instagram and wrote:
"One final thank you."
Damon Hill on his Instagram Stories reposted the message shared by the Italian team and gave a one-word response, saying:
"Classy."
The 30-year-old took the Maranello outfit to P2 in the Constructor's Championship in two out of the four years in 2022 and 2024, while finishing P3 in 2023 and P4 in 2021.
Carlos Sainz gives his take on being "hurt" by top teams's rejection
Now-Williams F1 driver Carlos Sainz stated that he was "hurt" after being ignored by the top teams during the 2024 driver's market despite performing at a high level for Ferrari in his final year.
Speaking with Sky Sports F1, the four-time F1 race winner spoke about being at peace with his decision to join the Grove-based outfit and said, via F1.com:
“I’ve definitely come to peace and I’m a true believer that if I’m not going there, it’s because life just doesn’t want me to be there – there’s something else coming after, that will actually turn out to be good. It hurt at the time. We all have egos… I have a driver ego and I couldn’t understand it at the time. I still personally cannot understand certain choices that people have done.
“At the same time, it creates even more of a challenge in me, it even makes me more excited for Williams. Williams is the one that has invested in me, that have backed me up from the beginning, the ones that came to me a full year ago. It actually makes me super excited."
Carlos Sainz would join Williams F1 from the 2025 season and race alongside Alex Albon on a multi-year deal that would see him for them until the end of the 2026 season. However, it is unclear if he will stay with the British team beyond his current contract.
