F1 pundit refutes Mercedes director's claim about Michael Schumacher being quicker than Lewis Hamilton over a lap

F1 pundit Peter Windsor strongly disagreed with Mercedes director James Allison's claim that Michael Schumacher was quicker than Lewis Hamilton over one lap.

Both drivers are considered the most successful legends of F1, as they have won seven world championships and dominated the sport for several years. There is often discussion regarding which of them was faster at his peak.

During a live stream on his YouTube channel, one of Windsor's viewers wrote how Mercedes director James Allison claimed that Michael Schumacher was faster than Lewis Hamilton over one lap.

The F1 pundit was taken aback at this claim and asked whether James Allison was referring to Schumacher's Ferrari stint or Mercedes stint. He said:

"I mean, how does he know that Michael was slightly quicker over a lap? And in what year? In the Mercedes years or the Ferrari?"

Later, Windsor stated that he respects James Allison and believes that he must be claiming this on some bases and his own experience. However, he refused to believe that Michael Schumacher was faster than Lewis Hamilton over one lap and said:

"I'm not saying James Allison doesn't know exactly what he's talking about. I'm sure he's basing all that on his own information. But to me, there is absolutely no way in the world [that] Michael Schumacher at his peak was quicker over one lap than Lewis Hamilton at his peak over one lap. No way. Sorry, I just totally don't get that, I disagree with it."

James Allison has been in F1 for quite some time now and has worked closely with both Schumacher and Hamilton in their dominant eras. He was with Ferrari in the early 2000s and has been with Mercedes since 2017.

Lewis Hamilton comments on 2023 F1 Emilia Romagna GP cancelation

It was recently confirmed that the 2023 F1 Emilia Romagna GP will not go forward due to extreme weather conditions and flooding in Imola and neighboring regions. After the official statement was out, several drivers and teams extended their thoughts towards the people suffering from the environmental calamity.

Lewis Hamilton issued a statement as well, in which he prayed for the safety of people living in that region. He wrote on his Instagram story:

"Hoping everyone in Emilia Romagna is able to stay safe and look out for each other right now. Thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy and the amazing emergency services working on the ground. I know we all understand that safety comes first. I can't wait to see you all at the next race."

Since the Emilia Romagna GP is called off, the next race will be held in Monaco on May 27. Hence, the teams and the drivers will get extra time to prepare their cars for the upcoming double-header.
