Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur has expressed denial of Mercedes allegedly 'sabotaging' Lewis Hamilton. This came after an email from an anonymous person claimed the team was 'sabotaging' him since he leaves at the end of this season.
Lewis Hamilton is set to leave Mercedes and join Ferrari in the 2025 season. His decision has been analyzed around the performance his current team is delivering. Amidst this, some users claimed that Mercedes might be prioritizing George Russell since he will stay with them.
After the Canadian GP, an anonymous user sent a mail to the crew and the media claiming that Lewis Hamilton was being "sabotaged" within the team. This was met with a huge backlash as Mercedes took the help of cops to search for the source of this email.
Fred Vasseur, Ferrari's boss, claimed that the email was "irrational" and no one working in the paddock could send it. He said (via The Race):
"How could you imagine that a company with 1500 people working night and day, pushing like hell to bring upgrades... [that] we could kill one of our cars or [deliverately] damage one of our cars?
"This is completely irrational and nobody in the paddock could do something like this."
Toto Wolff suggests "crazy people" should go to a "psychiatrist" amidst Lewis Hamilton row
In a statement shared by De Telegraaf, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff mentioned that anybody who is part of the team's personnel would not send out an email like that. Further, he explained that the act was "disturbing." This was what made it so important to find the source of the email. He said:
"We know this is not coming from an employee of our team and we receive an incredible number of these types of emails. That is disturbing, especially when someone talks about death and things like that in such an email. That is why I said that we must investigate this fully and call the police. Online behavior like this must stop," Wolff said.
Adding to that, he said that he is "friends" with Lewis Hamilton, and the "crazy" people who are claiming that the team is ill-treating him should see a "psychiatrist."
"Lewis has been part of this team for twelve years, we are friends and trust each other. I would like to say to all those crazy people out there: go see a psychiatrist."
It is currently unknown who shared the mail but it seems apparent that both the Mercedes and Ferrari team principals are adamant that it could not be an inside job.
