Fans praised CEO Stefano Domenicali after he announced that F1 will be donating $1 million to support the communities affected by floods in the region of Emilia Romagna in Italy.
The region hosts the Grand Prix in Imola every season and in 2023 it was supposed to be the 70th anniversary of the track. However, the region has been experiencing heavy rainfall and floods for quite some time, which has also impacted the daily life of the locals.
In a statement released by F1, Domenicali said:
“I was born and grew up in the marvelous lands of Emilia Romagna, a place that is living through some of the saddest moments in its history. The situation facing the communities in the region is terrible, but I know that the resilience and passion of the people in the region, like so many across Italy, will prevail through this crisis."
“We must do everything we can to support them at this difficult time and that is why we are donating to help support the relief efforts on the ground," he added. "My thoughts, on behalf of the entire Formula 1 community, are with everyone affected and we want to thank the emergency services for their incredible work.”
F1 fans took to social media to give their opinions on the statement with one fan stating that he was relieved to see that the sport was finally helping.
"Finally some action," he wrote on Twitter.

"It’s not like I have a one-second upgrade coming, which is what I need" - Mercedes F1 driver
Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton mentioned that the upgrades that the team will introduce in Monaco will not take them ahead or equal to Red Bull instantly.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the Miami GP, Hamilton said:
“Well, it’s a bit of an unknown. It’s not like I have a one-second upgrade coming, which is what I need. But it’s something. It’s a step in the right direction, hopefully, for us to really be able to progress.”
Team Principal Toto Wolff also agreed with his charge and added:
“We have to be careful that we have our expectations under control. I don’t think we’ll get there and suddenly we’re half a second faster and in the middle of a fight. We won’t. But we are now laying a new foundation and at least taking some issues off the table that we believe are contributing to us being too slow. Let’s see what that brings.”
It will be fascinating to see where the former world champion ends up after their upgrade package in Monaco.
