It is being reported that Ferrari's senior management, including CEO John Elkann, will meet with team principal Frederic Vasseur to assess the current situation of the SF-24. After starting the 2024 season on a high the Italian team has fallen behind their rivals McLaren and Mercedes in the pecking order on the grid in terms of competitiveness.
The Maranello-based outfit had taken two wins from the first seven races and were the team pushing Red Bull for race wins and pole positions. However, they have slipped back drastically since introducing their upgrade package in Imola and Spain which has proved to be a downgrade in terms of performance.
As reported by Funoanalistecnica, Ferrari are currently the fourth-fastest team on the grid and have not displayed their early season pace in the recently concluded triple header. John Elkann, along with other senior team management, would meet with Vasseur to discuss the drastic dip in form and the short-term measures to fix the issue.
However, the Frenchman's job is not rumored to be at risk though he remains answerable, given his role in the team. It is also being reported that the conversation could perhaps include the 2025 and 2026 seasons as they welcome Lewis Hamilton into the fray next year on a multi-year deal.
Ferrari team boss explains the upgrades' failure in the 2024 season
Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur stated that the correlation in the wind tunnel to the car was 'okay', as the upgrades not yielding the desired results remained a 'question mark' for everyone.
As per Motorsport.com, the Frenchman said:
"Correlation is ok, the correlation on the downforce is ok. It is still a question mark for everybody and sometimes the bouncing is popping up like this. It is quite difficult to have correlation because you don't have bouncing in the wind tunnel.
"We all have metrics, and you cannot anticipate you have more bouncing with this part over another one. But to know if it will have a negative impact on performance is another story."
He also spoke about the dilemma that they are facing regarding the direction they need to go in before bringing the new set of upgrades, adding:
“You have solutions with a compromise on performance, you have solutions without a compromise on performance – which is developing a new package. I think we are there now. We will have to have the next race with the current car, but the sooner the better we will bring upgrades that have less bouncing." he added.
Despite recent lackluster performances, Ferrari remains in P2 in the Construcutor's Championship after 12 races and three Sprints thus far with 302 points, but are a mere seven points ahead of McLaren.
