After the disappointment of the Belgian Grand Prix, George Russell took some time off with his girlfriend Carmen Mundt. The couple spent some quality time together amid the mid-season break in the 2024 Formula 1 season.

George Russell first met Carmen Mundt in London via a mutual friend. The couple opened up about their relationship in 2020. Since then, Mundt has been a permanent sighting in Formula 1 paddocks around the globe. The Spanish business management professional has been standing firmly behind the young British racer through the ups and downs of his F1 career so far.

Now, on the back of a heartbreaking weekend in Belgium, where Russell was stripped of his victory due to his underweight W15 race car, the #63 driver has taken some time off training to take his mind off the stressful F1 season. The two-time Mercedes-AMG race winner posted a picture of him and Mundt on X.

Here's a look at the special moment with the setting sun in the backdrop, captioned:

Compared to last year, George Russell has been in better form in the 2024 season. With two podium finishes (third in Canada and first in Austria) and 116 points in the first half, he currently stands in 8th position in the driver's championship, behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton (6th position with 150 points).

A brief look at George Russell's heartbreaking Belgian Grand Prix weekend

After a dismal eighth-place finish at the Hungaroring, George Russell was looking to make amends at the Belgian Grand Prix. However, the British driver struggled throughout the weekend, mostly due to the general lack of pace of his W15 race car.

Russell had a disappointing start for the weekend at the iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. The #63 racer finished the first Free Practice session (FP1) in fourth place, 0.853 seconds behind Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen. The situation worsened during the FP2 session, where Russell dropped to sixth position, 1.030 seconds behind the session leader Lando Norris of McLaren.

Lance Stroll's early crash in the rain-soaked final Free Practice (FP3) session brought out the red flag, ending the session abruptly. This caused Russell to fall back to 18th place, with no time set on the board. With just two laps in FP3, the Mercedes-AMG driver was unable to fine-tune his W15's setup ahead of the Qualifying.

With less data available in the Qualifying, Russell was able to finish the session in 7th place, 1.025 seconds behind pole-sitter Max Verstappen and 0.349 seconds behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Things changed in favor of George Russell on race day. The young Brit managed his race brilliantly on a one-stop strategy, allowing him to win the race on the track. However, due to excessive tire and plank wear during the race, Russell's car was found underweight by 1.5 kg, resulting in his disqualification after the race.
