Alpine announced that Bruno Famin will move away from his role as the team's principal. He earned the position earlier this year.
The team hired Famin in 2022 to look over the engine division. However, when their former boss Otmar Szafnauer was released almost a year ago, Famin was sought to be the replacement. He has been carrying that role in the 2024 F1 season.
The team's performance, however, took a hit. While they were able to compete in the midfield until the last season, they had one of the most uncompetitive cars at the start of this season. They have managed to bring some improvements in the car, but it has still taken quite a downfall compared to last year.
Fans on social media found it rather comic for Alpine to change another team principal mid-way through the season. One user wrote:
"He came, he destroyed, he left. But none of it was his fault."
"Bob the builder can’t even fix this team," another fan wrote.
"Alpine is the worst place to work for serious people," a user claimed.
Some comments also suggested that the team should "sell off" to some other team owing to the string of issues they have faced in the season so far.
"Getting ready to sell off I guess. Good luck to the team," a user commented.
Alpine announce Bruno Famin to oversee motorsports activities at Renault Group
In the team's official announcement, Alpine revealed that Famin will be moving to Viry-Châtillon to oversee all the motorsports activities for the Renault Group.
"BWT Alpine F1 Team can confirm that Bruno Famin will move away from his current role as team principal of the F1 division by the end of August," the statement read. "Bruno will bee in charge of all other motorsports activities of the Renault Group at Viry-Châtillon. A new team principal will be announced in due course."
Alpine are the only team that run on the Renault power unit on the F1 grid. However, it has been expected that they might switch to the Mercedes PU in the future. Given that there might not remain any of the teams in F1 powered by the Renault engine, Bruno Famin's work in the sport might become limited. However, he will also be overseeing the World Endurance Championship and Formula E divisions.
Although their new principal has not been announced yet, Oliver Oakes is expected to take the position. He is the current team principal of Hitech GP in Formula 2.
