Ralf Schumacher believes Adrian Newey’s move from Red Bull to Aston Martin highlights his continued drive to remain competitive in motorsport. Speaking to Sky Sport Germany, the former Williams driver noted that the allure of new challenges and fresh objectives marks an exciting new chapter for the renowned British engineer.
Newey’s arrival at Aston Martin has sparked predictions of a highly successful collaboration. With Fernando Alonso and Honda also in the mix, the partnership promises to be one to watch closely. Newey will serve as Managing Technical Partner, working alongside top talents like former Red Bull aerodynamics chief Dan Fallows and ex-Ferrari aerodynamics head Enrico Cardile. Ralf Schumacher believes that with these resources and expertise in place, Newey has everything needed to create a winning formula.
Commenting on Newey’s move to Aston Martin, Schumacher said:
“I am very, very sure, although he does not start officially until next year, that Aston Martin will make a miraculous leap – as early as next year, if not even now towards the end of the year. He is also known for guaranteeing and bringing success. And that must of course be his goal. He has everything he needs [at Aston Martin]. He wants to have enthusiastic people around him who have no personal issues, and only one goal: to build fast cars and win races.”
Ralf Schumacher feels Horner should accept that Red Bull is suffering without Newey
Ralf Schumacher believes Christian Horner should come to terms with Red Bull’s performance decline following Adrian Newey’s departure. He isn't sure whether Horner could withstand the team’s potential downfall. While Horner seems confident the team can thrive without Newey, Schumacher is urging caution, noting the current drop in performance. He also suggests that Red Bull could risk losing Max Verstappen due to its underperformance, adding that Verstappen’s father and management are focused on securing championships. With Newey and Honda now part of Aston Martin, the Silverstone team could become an appealing option for the Dutchman.
Commenting on Horner and Red Bull after Newey, Schumacher said (via Planet F1):
“He’s also of the opinion that it could work without Adrian Newey. Accordingly, you might have to be a little cautious with this analysis. The performance is no longer there. That’s something he has to accept. I’m not sure whether he can survive it. I suspect no.”
Schumacher commented on Max Verstappen moving to Aston Martin saying:
“Max Verstappen and especially his father and his management want to win, they want to fight for the World Championship title. Adrian Newey is a well-known figure for them, and so is Honda.”
Red Bull Racing is currently just eight points ahead of McLaren in the constructors’ championship, a margin that could quickly vanish. While RBR has brought a reworked underfloor to Azerbaijan, it continues to struggle with straight-line speed compared to its rivals. Verstappen leads the drivers’ championship by 62 points over Lando Norris, but RBR's hold on the constructors’ title is under serious threat from both McLaren and Ferrari.
