Alpine Executive advisor Flavio Briatore heartily praised Pierre Gasly for his performances in the 2024 season that helped the French team finish P6 in the Constructor's Championship. The Enstone-based made a terrible start to the season as they were plumb last in the first few races.
They did make progress in the middle to move themselves ahead of Kick Sauber to P9 but were still finishing in the final rows of the season. However, after efficiently upgrading the car, especially in the hands of Gasly, they made a resurgent comeback, which included an extraordinary P2 and P3 led by Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly.
While speaking with Le Parisien, Briatore was full of praise for the 2020 Italian GP winner and called him "our driver", saying:
"Pierre did an extraordinary job. He surprised me a lot this year. This is truly our pilot. I really thank him. He has completely changed his attitude this season.
"He never had any accidents. If we managed to be sixth, it’s thanks to him. I am sure that Pierre will continue his great work. And that Jack Doohan will live up to it."
Gasly was also the only driver not to be involved in any accidents as he did not contribute to any crash damage throughout the 2024 campaign. He finished in P10 in the driver's standings with 40 points, a point ahead of Nico Hulkenberg.
Pierre Gasly assesses Alpine's 2024 campaign after Abu Dhabi
Alpine driver Pierre Gasly recognized that, as a team, they still had a big gap to cover in terms of performance, but he was pleased with the progress made by their Enstone-based outfit.
Speaking with F1.com, the five-time podium sitter was excited that they can move further ahead in the 2025 season and believed that they were moving in the "right direction", saying:
“We still have a big gap with the guys ahead but I’m very pleased to see that whatever we’re finding at the factory really translates into performance at the track. We started very far away and I kept telling them the whole year it doesn’t matter where we start, it’s important where we finish, to really understand what we’re doing and develop the car and get some good understanding for ‘25.
“I think we’ve never looked as strong as during these last final few races. It’s got me excited for next season – at least I’m going to be slightly more relaxed over the winter and I know they’ve got more performance coming. I think as a team we’re heading in the right direction.”
Pierre Gasly will joined by Alpine junior driver and rookie Jack Doohan after Esteban Ocon left the team to join Haas F1 for the 2025 season.
