7x F1 race winner and former title contender Juan Pablo Montoya feels Ferrari needs to build a car around Lewis Hamilton and listen to what he says if it wants to win. The Italian team will join hands with the legend next season as F1 gets ready for what could be an iconic partnership between the sport's biggest name and the sport's biggest team.

At the same time, it's not a case of Hamilton going into Ferrari as a driver who is going to take over the lead within the team. He's going to be paired up with one of the best drivers in F1 in Charles Leclerc.

With the form that Lewis Hamilton has at this moment, it's not going to be for him to just go to Ferrari and assume the leadership role. He would be treated as an equal alongside Charles Leclerc, a driver who has been very impressive throughout the season.

With that being said, Lewis does have the experience of being a part of teams that have been very successful. His stint at McLaren yielded a title. His stint at Mercedes saw arguably the greatest partnership between a driver and a team. The driver is moving to Ferrari with just one mission, to win his eighth F1 title and do so with the iconic Italian team.

Talking about what the team needs to do for the driver, Juan Pablo Montoya said that Ferrari has to listen to what its latest signing says and build the car around him. As quoted by PlanetF1, the Columbian feels that the fans would see the Lewis of old, he said:

"I think we’ll see the Lewis of old. He’s going to be out with a revenge to prove everybody wrong and show everybody they were wrong about him. I think if everything lines up, I think Lewis can be a huge threat for a championship."

He added:

"If Ferrari really wants to succeed, they really need to listen to what Lewis needs and build a car around him that Lewis wants."

Ferrari boss claims signing Lewis Hamilton was not tough

Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur was questioned if the negotiations with Lewis Hamilton were difficult since the driver had been with Mercedes for close to a decade. The Frenchman felt that this was not the case and one of the reasons for that was the fact that the driver always had it at the back of his mind that he would race for Ferrari one day. He told La Gazzetta:

“It was not that difficult to convince Lewis Hamilton. I remember that in 2004, we were together [in the F3 Euro Series]; at that time, he was linked to McLaren-Mercedes, but he already had in mind that, sooner or later, he would go to Ferrari."

He added:

"We talked about it a long time ago. He always had this desire in mind, but obviously he is a driver who wants guarantees in terms of performance. If he chose to join Ferrari, it confirms to me that we will be able to have the right car. That's the ultimate goal."

How Lewis Hamilton fares at Ferrari will be interesting to see, especially since there are far too many things that are going to take time for the driver to get used to. There will be questions about how the driver fares against a talent like Leclerc in a squad that is currently built around him.
