Lewis Hamilton was once asked by Jenson Button about his love life. In 2018, the then-four-time world champion admitted that he did not have one.
In the past, several reports about Hamilton's romantic relationship have come out, linking him with various female personalities. Hamilton was in a relationship with Nicole Scherzinger, whom he dated on and off from 2007 to 2015, as reported by "PEOPLE" Magazine.
In 2018, Hamilton was interviewed by former F1 world champion and Sky Sports presenter, Jenson Button, before the British GP. Recently, a clip from this old interview was shared by one of F1's fan accounts on X.
In the clip, Button and Hamilton were seen laughing about a previous topic that they discussed. The retired F1 driver then jokingly asked Hamilton about his love life. The Mercedes star laughed and replied that it was completely "nonexistent". The conversation then quickly shifted to Hamilton's dogs.
"As we are talking about it, how's the love life?" Button asked
"It's non-existent man, it's non-existent, jeez. I don't know...I just." Hamilton replied.
Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button were teammates at McLaren between 2010 and 2012. During that time, both drivers were evenly matched, with Hamilton winning 10 races compared to Button's eight race wins. However, neither of them won any drivers' world titles since Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel was much more dominant and won four consecutive titles between 2010 and 2013.
When Lewis Hamilton explained why his love life is nonexistent
Fast forward to 2022, Lewis Hamilton elaborated more on why he does not have a romantic relationship with someone. In an exclusive interview with "Vanity Fair" magazine in August 2022, Hamilton said that he learned that dating was not for him.
The seven-time world champion mentioned that he could only focus on one task and not juggle various aspects of life at once. Hence, he was extremely focused on his work, which was to race in F1.
“I learned the hard way. I haven’t talked about it much. I’m really just super focused on work. I’ve realized that I can’t do two things or three things at once, I’ve got to focus on one,” Hamilton said.
The Mercedes driver further explained that he wanted to stay comfortable and happy in his own space rather than using someone else as a crutch for being happy.
“I really wanted to go through a growth process of getting myself to a point where I’m happy on my own, comfortable in my space. So that if I ever do meet someone, it’s an addition, rather than ‘I need you in my life’, ” he added.
As of now, Lewis Hamilton has not publicly stated whether he has a romantic relationship with someone or not.
