Lewis Hamilton reckons his last race with Mercedes at Abu Dhabi could be a dull one like the previous race weekends. He feels that he will not be able to end his career with the team on a high.
The 2024 F1 season has not been the greatest for Lewis Hamilton. Despite him winning the British GP after a 945-day winless drought, he remains several places below the top drivers and has been struggling to out-qualify his teammate, George Russell.
The Brazilian GP was one of the lowest points of his 2024 campaign, as he scored only one point after finishing in 10th place. He then had another poor race in Qatar where he suffered a puncture from debris on the tracks and could only finish in 12th place.
Speaking to the media about his last race with Mercedes in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton said he was not too excited about it. He said that he would try his best for a good result, but felt that his illustrious career with the team would not end on a high note. Hamilton said (via Sky Sports),
“I don’t think we’re going to end up on a high. It’ll end and I think what’s important is how we turn up. We’ll give it our best shot. And I don’t anticipate a particularly much better weekend than we’ve had in the past weekends.
“But naturally, I’ll try, but go in with low hopes and come out with a better result, that's great, but it doesn’t really make a big difference either way. I think these last races don’t have an impact on everything we’ve done together.”
Lewis Hamilton will head to Ferrari in 2025. This move was confirmed before the 2024 F1 season even began, in a sudden, shock move.
Lewis Hamilton unbothered by his championship position after a poor Brazilian GP result
After Lewis Hamilton finished in 10th place in the 2024 F1 Brazilian GP, he said he was no longer bothered by where he finished in the championship table, especially because he was not fighting for the title. Speaking to Motorsport.com, he said that if Mercedes manages to give him a strong car, he would try to score decent points, particularly for the team. Hamilton said,
“I don't care if I finish ahead of [team-mate] George [Russell] or behind George. It doesn't make any difference to me. I just want to keep the car out the wall and try to score points if I can for the team, if I can finish, whatever. If they give me a car that doesn't bounce off the track in the next few races, then hopefully we can get a better result. But yeah, looking forward to Christmas.”
Lewis Hamilton currently stands in seventh place with 211 points after the Qatar GP. Meanwhile, his teammate, George Russell is in sixth place with 235 points.
