McLaren driver Lando Norris gave leftfield advice to youngsters heading into motorsports by stating that it isn't always necessary to believe in oneself. The British driver is one of the best F1 drivers on the grid and has shown constant improvement ever since he made his debut in 2019 with the Woking-based outfit.
After a solid start to the 2024 season, the 24-year-old is in a title battle with Red Bull driver and three-time world champion Max Verstappen with eight races and three sprints remaining this year.
In his Q&A with F1.com, Lando Norris gave an out-of-the-box advice to the younger crop of drivers and said:
"I would say just keep grinding away. I wouldn’t say keep believing, because I think that’s nonsense. I didn’t believe I was going to be in F1 and I’m here. I don’t think you need to believe in yourself, to be honest. I think it helps and maybe it’s a good thing, but I don’t think you need it."
"Some people maybe like it more than others, but as long as you’re working hard in the meantime, I think that’s the most important thing. I worked hard to be here, but I didn’t believe I would be here. I think that’s probably the best thing."
Norris is known for his self-critical nature and is always hard on himself when he does not perform to his expectations in the races.
Lando Norris picks Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen as his golf partners
In his Q&A session, McLaren driver Lando Norris also shared that he would pick his former teammate and Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz and Verstappen as his two golf partners.
The Brit was complimentary of the Spanish driver's skills on the course but picked the 26-year-old Dutchman for just pure fun. He said:
"I think I’d have Carlos [Sainz]. I’ll have Max [Verstappen], just for the vibe. He won’t be allowed to hold a golf club or anything, but just to have… He can get the drinks and that kind of thing."
He also pointed out that Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll was also handy with a golf club and said:
"I think Lance [Stroll] is pretty good at golf, Lance is very good at golf, similar to Carlos almost. For a competition, those two, then Max can drive the golf buggy, caddie, and that kind of thing." he added.
Lando Norris, Carlos Sainz, Lance Stroll, and Alex Albon are some of the drivers known to have a liking for golf and are often spotted playing the sport on their off days between race weekends.
