After a disappointing P15 finish in the Austrian Grand Prix last Sunday, Alex Albon seemed to be in a positive mood for the British Grand Prix weekend. The young driver commented on the large presence of female fans at Silverstone.

Albon arrived at the iconic racing venue with his girlfriend Lily Muni, a professional Chinese golfer. The London-based driver was surprised to see a large number of female fans at the venue. Speaking with Motorsport.com, Albon said he felt more like the One Direction popstar Harry Styles, than an F1 driver.

"Amazing to see such a female based audience [in F1]... I feel more like Harry styles!" 😅

As the race weekend begins at Silverstone, Williams and Albon will be looking to improve on the result from the previous weekend.

Albon began his racing career in the junior Formula division against the likes of Charles Leclerc, George Russell, and Lando Norris. The 28-year-old racer moved to Formula 1 in 2019 with Toro Rosso, Red Bull Racing's sister team. He soon graduated to RBR as Max Verstappen's teammate. However, the Austrian outfit demoted him as their reserve driver in 2021 citing performance issues.

In 2022, Albon acquired a drive with Williams Racing and has been a part of the team since then. The driver has also bagged a multi-year contract with the British team until the 2026 regulations are implemented.

Here's a brief look at Alex Albon's 2024 Formula 1 season with Williams Racing

After finishing the 2023 season in 13th position, Alex Albon began the 2024 Formula 1 season on a positive note. However, due to the FW46 race car's lack of outright performance, Albon was unable to compete on par with other midfield teams such as Aston Martin or Haas.

Albon finished the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix in the 15th position. However, both Williams drivers complained about engine overheating issues throughout the race. With the reliability issues sorted, the #23 driver was able to end the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 11th place.

With no plans for bringing updates anytime soon, Albon continued to struggle in the next five races of the season (11th in Australia, DNF in Japan, 12th in China, 18th in Miami, and DNF in Emilia Romagna). Challenges for the London-based driver remained identical in the last three races in Canada, Spain, and Austria (DNF, 18th, and 15th position respectively).

The only relief in the season so far came at the Monaco Grand Prix, where Albon finished in the points (2 points on finishing 9th). For reference, Monaco happens to be the only point-scoring race for Williams this season.

With upgrades planned to be implemented after the British Grand Prix, Williams and Albon are likely expected to struggle against their rivals this weekend.
