Mercedes boss Toto Wolff (worth $1.6bn) has addressed the claims made in the leaked 'Lewis Hamilton sabotage' letter that was sent to key F1 personnel after the Canadian GP. The race in Montreal had seen Lewis lose the podium to teammate George Russell.
In what became an interesting turn of events, Lewis Hamilton was losing out often against his teammate with the Canadian GP proving to be the braking point for many of his fans. Comments alleging foul play from the fans even reached the professional networking platform LinkedIn as well.
At the same time, however, there was an email titled 'Lewis Hamilton sabotage' that made its way to numerous journalists and key F1 personnel accounts.
The mail termed Mercedes boss Toto Wolff as 'vindictive' and said that the Austrian was part of a sabotage campaign against Lewis Hamilton. When the details of such a thing became public, Wolff made it known that the team had even contacted the police and criminal proceedings would be in play as well.
In an interview with OE24, Toto Wolff was questioned about being termed 'vindictive'. The Austrian, slightly reticent when it came to talking about the whole thing, stated,
"I am certainly not. On the contrary, I am for fairness and I fight for fairness."
He further added that Lewis Hamilton felt such things should not be given attention, as he himself had faced much worse.. He said,
"He thinks we should take out the negativity. He has also experienced much worse abuse and thinks we should ignore it."
Toto Wolff addresses his current relationship with Lewis Hamilton
The Mercedes boss Toto Wolff addressed his current relationship with the outgoing driver and said that things are just like they've always been. The two came together at the team in 2013. Since then the partnership has grown and both have termed each other a friend.
The amount of success that Toto has achieved with Lewis is unprecedented as well. Having said that, the driver is moving to Ferrari next year and there is an expectation that the distance between the two could increase.
The two however continue to have a strong relationship. In the interview with OE24, Toto was questioned about the relationship and if it was the same as before to which he said,
"Totally! What is sometimes interpreted from the outside does not correspond to reality at all. So please ignore it!"
Hamilton leaving Mercedes at the end of the 2024 F1 season is something of a shock for the team, especially considering how long he has been a part of the whole squad. With 14 races left, the duo will be aiming for a strong end to the partnership.
