Red Bull Chief Technology Officer Adrian Newey's manager and former F1 team principal Eddie Jordan claimed that he has "no idea" about the aero wizard's next destination in the sport. The 65-year-old surprised the F1 world when he announced that he would be leaving the Austrian team in early 2025 after 19 years with the Milton Keynes outfit.
On the Formula for Success podcast, Jordan said he did not know about Newey's next destination while replying to former McLaren driver David Coulthard's question. He said (via PlanetF1):
“Adrian is a super, super talented person, not many more intellectual brains anywhere in the world and certainly in Formula 1. The guy is iconic. And it’ll be his choice. He will decide, I presume, ‘Do I take some time out because I’ve been doing this every year since I was in university?’
“I knew him first when he was in Leyton House and that was in the mid-’80s and that’s how we knew him. I offered him a job and he took it, but his wife then gave me the cheque back. Hadn’t been signed, by the way! But truthfully, I have no idea and I just want to wish him well."
Newey joined the reigning world champions in 2006 and took them to seven driver's and six constructors' championships during his storied tenure with Red Bull. With his departure imminent, there were reports that he might choose one of Ferrari, Aston Martin, or McLaren as his next project.
F1 pundit gives a possible timeline for Adrian Newey to Aston Martin announcement
Sky Sports F1 pundit Ted Kravitz said that according to the latest rumors, Adrian Newey's reported move to Aston Martin could be announced before the end of the summer break.
While appearing on the Sky Sports F1 podcast, Kravitz said of Newey's exit from Red Bull (via PlanetF1):
“Adrian Newey... I said this at the time and I’ll say it again, if you’re working in the Red Bull factory, two words you don’t want to hear: 'Adrian’s leaving.' Can you imagine the impact of those words? It’s like, 'what? Adrian’s going? Oh no.'
“So the impact of Newey leaving and potentially going to Aston Martin, the latest hot rumor to have signed his services to be announced at the end of the summer break – we’ll see if that turns out to be true or not,” he added.
Some reports say that Aston Martin has offered $100 million to Adrian Newey for a four-year contract and to join the Silverstone base team from next season onwards.
However, neither the aero wizard nor the F1 team have confirmed such reports, with both parties denying any announcement in this regard happening in the coming weeks.
