After securing a crown jewel victory at the Monaco Grand Prix, Ferrari ace Charles Leclerc has expressed his desire to compete in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race and hopes to participate at the earliest opportunity. Leclerc clinched the Monaco GP victory earlier in May, marking a long-awaited triumph on his home soil.
The Ferrari driver is now two victories away from accomplishing the Triple Crown of Motorsport, which includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indy 500 alongside his Monaco F1 victory.
Following his recent victory at Monza, Leclerc was asked about his interest in running the rest of the Triple Crown events at Circuit de la Sarthe and Indianapolis. Leclerc said that he doesn't have an eye on the Indy 500 but is eager to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
"I am really interested in racing at Le Mans one day. Indianapolis is not necessarily something I have my eye on. Maybe one day. But Le Mans is definitely one of the races I want to take part in one day. I don't know when, but hopefully soon," he was quoted as saying by Motorsport-Total.com
Charles Leclerc has a promising path to a Le Mans victory with Ferrari's WEC outfit. The Italian team, in partnership with AF Corse, made a triumphant return to the Hypercar category in 2023 and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team repeated the feat this season, securing back-to-back victories at the prestigious event.
On the current F1 grid, Fernando Alonso and Nico Hulkenberg are the only drivers to have won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Alonso, who has also won the Monaco GP, is one Indy 500 victory away from completing the Triple Crown, having made three unsuccessful attempts with McLaren.
Charles Leclerc previously expressed his desire to team up with his brother for Le Mans entry
The Ferrari driver has previously expressed interest in competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside his younger brother, Arthur Leclerc. Arthur, a former Ferrari Development driver, currently races in the European Le Mans Series.
Following Ferrari's victory at Le Mans last season, Charles Leclerc shared his dream of racing in the prestigious event with his younger brother. In an interview with Motorsport.com, he said:
"Oh, yes…many times. It's definitely something I want to do one day, and with my brother for sure. But I don't know if this will happen."
The Monegasque driver also expressed his wish to team up with Antonio Fuoco, who won the 24 Hour Le Mans this season with Ferrari.
"There's Antonio also, he's part of the Ferrari family. He is one of my best friends and we grew up together. He is already training for that day! Let's see if it's possible and if it works out with all of our plans, because we obviously all race in different categories. But maybe one day."
The 2025 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, slated for June 14-15, clashes with the Canadian GP, ruling out the possibility of Leclerc entering the event next year.
