Max Verstappen reacted to the rumors of Red Bull sorting out a future contract for his unborn baby, saying he needs to have a word with team principal Christian Horner first. Jokes aside, the Dutch driver said that he does not want his child to become a racing driver and instead wants him or her to design cars.
Before the adventurous season concluded in Abu Dhabi, Max Verstappen announced that he was expecting his first child with girlfriend Kelly Piquet. The couple, having dated for four years, will embrace the crucial step of parenthood in 2025.
As soon as Max unveiled the news, Red Bull senior advisor Helmut Marko joked that the Dutchman's newborn could have the potential to be a world champion. He further added that the team would be willing to sign the baby in the junior academy irrespective of gender as 'fast women' are equally in demand.
Reacting to the comments, Max Verstappen said that he would speak with Horner once, as he does not want his child to become a racing driver. Speaking on the Talking Bull podcast, he said:
"I need to speak to Christian about that because I actually don't want he or she to go into racing. Maybe a different role for the team. Maybe he or she can design future cars or whatever. I mean, you never know, right?" said Verstappen [2.00 onwards].
The 27-year-old won four championship titles in a row, with the latest one coming in 2024. In what turned out to be one of the most competitive seasons of recent times, Verstappen fought toe-to-toe with Lando Norris to emerge victorious. He beat his rival by a whopping 62 points to defend his title.
Verstappen is leaving an extraordinary legacy in the sport of F1. With four back-to-back championships, he matched Sebastian Vettel's record of winning the joint-highest number of titles for Red Bull. Despite the massive success, he wishes his kid to stay away from the limelight and pressure of being an F1 driver.
"Very proud" - Max Verstappen on being a four-time world champion
From being the youngest driver to debut in F1 to becoming a four-time world champion, Max Verstappen has come a long way. During the Talking Bull podcast, the Dutch driver opened up on the surreal feeling.
He recalled the challenges of the past season and said that he plans to rest for a while before the new season begins.
"When I started racing, it would sound pretty insane to think even about that [winning four championships]. But now that we are here, very proud. It's been a very long season. Looking forward to actually resting up a little bit," Verstappen said [1:05 onwards].
Max Verstappen will enter the 2025 season as the defending champion. However, this time around, he will have a new teammate in Liam Lawson. This move came on the back of Sergio Perez's departure, who despite signing a two-year extension deal has been axed following a subpar season.
