"I was running with the biggest smile that I've probably ever had" - Lewis Hamilton talks about the day after he won the F1 British GP

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has claimed that he had the biggest smile whilst he was running around Hyde Park after winning the British Grand Prix earlier in the month. The seven-time world champion ended his two-and-a-half-year winless drought with a record-extending ninth victory at the iconic Silverstone track.

The 39-year-old started the race from the front row alongside his teammate George Russell but wasn't able to make any headway in the first phase of the race. But he showcased his experience and class when it started to rain and perfectly timed the changeover with slick tires in the final phase to take the lead from Lando Norris.

Speaking to the media, including Sportskeeda, ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton delved into his post-race celebrations, saying:

“I wouldn’t say that I’ve done a huge amount in the sense of celebrating. I flew back and was just really proud when I got back to London. And then I stayed in, and I watched the highlights, and had a nice curry with a couple of friends.
"And then I got up the next day and went for a great run around Hyde Park, and probably was running with the biggest smile that I’ve probably ever had,” he added.

Lewis Hamilton stated that as a team they did not want to get ahead of themselves after the recently found momentum but recognized that it was 'game on' for Mercedes to get a third successive race win in the 2024 season.

As per Sky Sports, the Brit said:

"We definitely don't want to get ahead of ourselves, that's key in our approach. But, also, we're like: 'It's game on! We're fighting, we're chasing, and we're going to try and win as many races as George mentioned or compete for as many wins as possible.
"[It] may turn out this weekend that the Red Bull is still light years ahead, or the McLaren is, still this weekend, who knows? But what we have shown over the past few races is that with determination, with real focus, and just persistently chasing for perfection and improvement you can make a difference," he added.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have helped the German team solidify their status at P4 in the Constructor's Championship whilst also closing the gap to the team ahead like Ferrari and McLaren. They have currently amassed 221 points from 12 races and three Sprints, with Russell leading Hamilton by a single point, 111 to 110, respectively.

Over the last four races, Mercedes have taken the lead on each occasion and have converted in Austria and Silverstone as of yet.
