Mercedes F1 driver George Russell is making the most of the off-season as he went skiing for the first time with his girlfriend Carmen Montero Mundt. He shared pictures of his trip on social media as fans showered love on the power couple.
The 26-year-old had a tough season in 2024 as he finished P6 in world championship standings with 245 points to his name. Russell, however, beat his departing teammate Lewis Hamilton in 19 of the 24 qualifying rounds.
Meanwhile, ahead of another crucial season, Russell went on a trip with his Spanish girlfriend, Carmen Montero Mundt, to enjoy the off-season. In pictures shared on his Instagram handle, the Brit is seen skiing in a first-time experience. The couple appeared in happy spirits as they seemed to enjoy each other's company.
"First time skiing, really enjoyed it."
Russell met Mundt through a common friend and began dating in 2020. After graduating from the University of Westminster with a degree in business management and finance, she worked in the corporate sector for a while. However, she recently quit her career in finance to move with her boyfriend to Monaco.
The power couple has been spotted at race weekends throughout the year. Besides, Carman Mundt accompanies Russell at various sports and lifestyle events during off weeks.
Meanwhile, George Russell is approaching a crucial phase of his career as he is set to become Mercedes' lead driver in the 2025 F1 season. The 26-year-old will be stepping into the shoes of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton as the latter will drive for Ferrari. Having been associated with the team since 2022, the Brit has earned the confidence and trust of team principal Toto Wolff.
In addition to being Mercedes' lead driver, Russell will also have to mentor his future teammate and 18-year-old rookie driver, Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Moreover, with the engine regulation overhaul looming, the 2025 season is important for all the teams, let alone the Silver Arrows.
George Russell takes a dig at Max Verstappen's championship victory
Mercedes driver George Russell added fuel to his ongoing rivalry with Max Verstappen in an interview with the Times. He opined that the Red Bull driver shouldn't have won the championship this year (via Planet F1):
“Arguably, Max shouldn’t have won the championship this year, but the others made a few more errors and didn’t capitalise when they had the chance. I feel that we have [won what we could]," Russell said.
Moreover, looking forward to the next season, Russell said he is ready to challenge Verstappen for a title run if given a chance.
“I feel absolutely ready to take my journey to the next level and I feel ready to fight for a championship. I feel ready to fight against Max [Verstappen] and if we get the opportunity, I’m not going to waste it," he added.
The 27-year-old Max Verstappen won his fourth championship in a row in 2024 after beating Lando Norris by a significant margin. He had to fight hard until the Las Vegas Grand Prix to confirm his championship.
