Former Red Bull engineer Dan Drury, who goes by the name 'Dan - EngineMode11' as an online streamer, said on a 2022 podcast that Adrian Newey's office at his home and the Milton Keynes factory looks like a bomb site. He has paper and drawings around the office, leading to a "chaotic" situation.
Newey, one of the most celebrated aerodynamic engineers in F1, served the outfit for two decades. He joined the team in 2006 and significantly impacted its rise to dominance. From 2010 to 2024, they won six constructors championships and eight drivers.
The 66-year-old has a unique working style. He carries a big notebook during race weekends and observes the car keenly before it leaves the garage. Appearing on The Last Lap podcast, Drury disclosed Newey's design approach:
"Adrian has got a connection at his house directly to the factory. I have seen Adrian's home office and his office at Milton Keynes, and it is a complete bomb site. His filing system is just basically sheets of paper everywhere and drawings. That's what genius looks like, but sometimes it is chaotic." [2.00]
However, after decades of glory, Newey has closed his successful and historic chapter with the outfit. In 2024, he announced his premature departure. Months later, Lawrence Stroll, owner of Aston Martin, onboarded Adrian Newey on a multi-year deal with a staggering salary. The 66-year-old veteran will move to Silverstone after the first quarter of the 2025 season.
As for the Bulls, CEO and team principal Christian Horner suggested that Newey's void will be filled through international promotions.
Christian Horner focused on Red Bull's strengths amid key exits
Red Bull Racing witnessed two shocking exits in the 2024 season. While Adrian Newey moved to Aston Martin, Jonathan Wheatley has been appointed as the team principal of Audi's upcoming F1 project.
However, Christian Horner claims his team is unbothered by the changes. Talking to motorsport.com, the team principal said:
"Obviously, sad to see them go. They’ve both played important roles in the team over their tenure in the team. But the show goes on, and I think we’ve got the strength and depth. What we're gearing up for in 2026 with our own power unit is by far the biggest challenge and the most ambitious project this team has ever taken on. So, in 2025, Jonathan will step off the pit wall, but other than that, everything remains the same."
Red Bull also tweaked the driver lineup for the 2025 season. Sergio Perez was fired on December 18, 2024, and Liam Lawson, the Racing Bulls driver, was confirmed as his replacement.
