Charles Leclerc recently admitted that the crash at FP2 during the 2024 F1 Hungarian GP was his fault. The Ferrari driver was out of the second practice session after crashing his SF-24 at the exit of Turn 4.
After his win in the Monaco GP, the Monegasque has been suffering quite a lot. In the last two races in Austria and England, he was only able to score two points. He finished P11 at the Red Bull Ring and P14 in Silverstone. Prior to that, he retired from the Canadian GP due to engine issues.
Coming into the Hungarian GP, Charles Leclerc's race weekend did not start on a good note. Though he clocked a fast lap and secured P3 in the first practice run, he lost control of his car in FP2 and crashed hard into the barriers.
Speaking to F1.com, the Ferrari star explained how he lost the car while coming out of Turn 4. He added that the moment he got a bit wide on the exit curb, he no longer had control of the car. Though it was a high-speed crash, there was relatively less damage to the SF-24. Charles Leclerc hopes that he could bounce back on Saturday.
"When I lost it, I thought the damage would be much bigger, but obviously it's enough to not continue the session, that's never what you want. What happened is that I ran a bit wide on the kerb, I got a snap in the middle of turn 4, got a bit wide on the kerb and lost it. It was my mistake. But now, it's all about bouncing back tomorrow," Leclerc said.
Charles Leclerc had a "good feeling" in Ferrari until the crash at Hungarian GP FP2
Charles Leclerc talked about how the car felt great until he crashed out of FP2 in the 2024 F1 Hungarian GP. He told F1.com that the overall feeling that he received from driving the SF-24 was positive, especially compared to the last few races. He hoped that he would cover up the lost mileage from FP2 on Saturday's FP3 session.
"Until now, the car was pretty good. The feeling is getting a little bit better. We had more of a consistent day compared to the last three or four weekends, so that's positive. Unfortunately with the mistake, the mileage was cut short, but hopefully we will recover that in FP3 tomorrow," Leclerc said.
Speaking about the competition, he admitted that McLaren was a lot quicker than Ferrari around Hungaroring.
"I think we are still quite a bit behind McLaren. McLaren seems to be super strong this weekend. However, as I said, the feeling is good, and that's always a good sign," he added.
