F1 fans recently reacted to Mercedes' honcho, Toto Wolff's response to Max Verstappen's comments on his future with Red Bull. The Verstappen-Mercedes rumor saga continues as both address the potential transfer.

Ever since Lewis Hamilton announced that he would leave Mercedes and join Ferrari in 2025, the Silver Arrows were forced to start looking for a new driver. Rumors emerged discussing drivers like Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Antonelli, and even Max Verstappen, who could join Mercedes in the future.

Verstappen's potential move to the Brackley-based team was quite eyebrow-raising since the Dutchman had an intense title battle with Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes in 2021. While Toto Wolff openly addressed the fact that any team would want a talented driver like Verstappen, the driver himself has not opened up a lot about his potential move.

Before the 2024 F1 Austrian GP, Verstappen was asked whether he would continue with Red Bull or would leave to join another team. The three-time world champion simply stated that he is focused on improving Red Bull's current and future cars at the moment.

Speaking to OE24, Toto Wolff was also asked for his take on Verstappen's response. While the interviewer stated that the Dutchman said yes to staying with Red Bull, Wolff argued that the driver's answer was not clear.

"I don't think he clearly said yes. But I wasn't there."

Many fans reacted on X to what Wolff had to say about Verstappen's recent comments. Some urged the Mercedes team boss to notice Verstappen's tone and body language, saying that it clearly shows that he wants to stay in Red Bull.

Others also discussed that statements about the Mercedes-Max Verstappen saga get thrown around in almost every single race weekend.

"Max doesn’t need to say yes. If you propose to your girlfriend and she looks obviously happy and crying tears of joy you think she gonna say no? Listen to their words and tone of voice. It should be obvious enough, Toto," a fan wrote.
"They're talking about this literally every week. LET MAX ALONE WTH," one exclaimed.
"He really wants Max," another added.

A few fans also wondered why Toto Wolff showed glimpses of overconfidence while talking about Max Verstappen's potential arrival in Mercedes. They speculated that the team's performance after the 2026 regulation change could lure the defending world champion.

"What is Toto cooking for Max post 2026," a follower wondered.
"There has to be something more than just rumors to make Toto so OVERconfident about signing Max," another mentioned.

Max Verstappen focused on improving Red Bull's future projects more than his transfer rumors

Max Verstappen stated that he is fully focused on improving future Red Bull F1 cars rather than on rumors about his future with the team.

Speaking at the press conference before the Austrian GP, the defending world champion was asked whether he would remain in Red Bull in the future. Verstappen gave a slightly different answer and said that he is currently focused on improving the RB20 and future Red Bull cars in order to get ahead of other teams.

"I think I've said this before. I mean, actually, of course, people are talking, but it's most important just that we have a very competitive car for the future. At the moment, of course, it's very tight, but we are working very well as a team to try and improve more. And for sure, I said this already with the team, we are working and focusing also on next year to try and be competitive again,"

After the Spanish GP, Max Verstappen leads the 2024 F1 drivers' championship table with 219 points. He is followed by McLaren's Lando Norris with 150 points and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc with 148 points.
