Fortune did not favor Charles Leclerc yet again, as the Monegasque driver faced a technical issue just ahead of his final Sprint qualifying flying lap. As Leclerc and Ferrari faced the misfortune on Friday, fans reacted as if they were accustomed to such an ordeal.
After an eventful weekend in Spain, Formula 1 is currently in Austria for the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix. The business side of the race weekend started with Sprint qualifying, where Max Verstappen claimed the pole position.
With this, he claimed his second Sprint pole of this season, as well as the eighth pole position of his career. The McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri qualified in P2 and P3, respectively. However, for Leclerc, it was yet another tough outing.
According to reports, Leclerc's SF-24 stalled in the pit lane, which halted the movement of his car. The anti-stall remained engaged on the SF-24 even after the 26-year-old left the garage for the final run.
This technical issue robbed him of a chance to set a flying lap, effectively throwing away any hope of points on Saturday. Witnessing Leclerc and Ferrari's misery, fans reacted as if they were accustomed to such misfortune.
"It’s Ferrari, of course, something is wrong," a fan wrote after Leclerc's misfortune.
"It was so ridiculous from Ferrari and Charles," wrote another.
"Average Ferrari experience," a fan chimed in as he remembered the tough days of being Tifosi.
"Typical Ferrari," wrote another fan as he recalled his experience.
"Ferrari is back," commented another.
"Ahhh Ferrari, we’re back the real Monaco curse started after the win," a fan wrote mentioning that Leclerc's misfortune began following his Monaco GP win.
Charles Leclerc unsure what happened at the pit lane
As per the latest developments, Charles Leclerc is still unsure how the blunder was committed. Speaking to the media after the Sprint qualifying session, he revealed,
“I don’t know what happened. I was in the pitlane, and I got the anti-stall and everything switched off. The team told me we will speak back in the garage, but I came straight here from the car, so I don’t know yet.”
Charles Leclerc is set to start the sprint from P10, having failed to record a lap time. His teammate, Carlos Sainz is to start in P5.
