McLaren boss Zak Brown was furious at Max Verstappen's driving tactics at the F1 Mexican GP and felt that this was becoming "a bit ridiculous." The Red Bull driver once again clashed with Lando Norris with two questionable moves, which resulted in multiple penalties.

Coming into the F1 Mexican GP, the memories of what happened in Austin last weekend were still fresh. Verstappen and Norris had been involved in an aggressive wheel-to-wheel battle that ended in the reigning champion's favor. However, questions were raised about the rules and the aggressive nature with which the Dutch driver had executed his moves.

In the F1 Mexican GP, it was once again on evidence that early in the race, Max Verstappen, in a sequence of events, first pushed Lando Norris off track. In a second moment, the driver went off track and took the British driver with him.

In all of this, Verstappen was handed two 10-second penalties. By the end of the race, the Red Bull driver was languishing in P6 while Lando Norris was in P2.

Talking to Sky Sports, McLaren boss Zak Brown was not happy and felt that the punishment should have been more severe. Claiming that it was becoming ridiculous, Brown said:

"The penalties were probably not enough. I mean, it's getting a bit ridiculous. I applaud the FIA stewards. Enough is enough. Let's just have some good clean racing moving forwards. I think the stewards are on it, I think that's clear by the penalties that were given. The stewards did a good job this weekend."

Red Bull boss disagrees with Zak Brown's judgment on Max Verstappen's penalties

Christian Horner, however, disagreed with Zak Brown's view of the penalties given to Max Verstappen. The Red Bull was handed two 10-second penalties and the team boss felt that it was a bit harsh.

Imploring a better understanding and interpretation of the rules, Horner told Sky Sports:

"Max did leave the track at Turn Four then at Seven, Lando opened the door very late and both ran off there. The problem is, I think we're going to get into very dangerous territory of, at what point is a dive bomb going to be OK?"

He added:

"I think, really, the FIA and the drivers need to sit down and decide what is acceptable and what isn't. I thought two 10-second [penalties] was a bit on the harsh side today. You've always got to play to the rules. We'll look and learn from this race, but more for us today was that we just didn't have the pace. That's where our focus will be in the next five days."

The race has seen Lando Norris close down Max Verstappen's lead by 10 points this weekend. The McLaren driver was on a sticky wicket early in the race, but the rearguard action has been brilliant.
