F1 fans were left reeling after the EA F1 24 game revealed their driver ratings for the new edition for this year. The collaboration between the sport and the gaming giants EA began in 2021 when the latter published the game developed by Codemasters.
Since then, the game has gained popularity in the EA catalog and has been promoted on a larger scale. Several F1 drivers have also tried their hand at the game on their personal simulators.
From the 2023 edition, Max Verstappen has retained his position at the top, but his score has dipped and stands at 95. Ferrari's Carlos Sainz moved to P2 with 90 points and is now ahead of the likes of Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, and his teammate, Charles Leclerc.
The official social media handle of "EASPORTSF1" shared the updated driver ratings on their X handle:
"As we head into the Summer Break, here are the movers and shakers in the #F124 Driver Ratings 📈 How's your favourite driver doing? 👀"
Some F1 fans expressed their disappointment at the driver's ratings of the 2024 edition of the game, with one fan claiming that the developers paid no attention while deciding on the ratings:
"It’s like you guys close your eyes and spin a wheel to decide these," the fan wrote.
"WHO GAVE ZHOU AN 80," another added.
"Lando only a 90 in McLaren fans' dreams. Leclerc also too low," a fan said
"Tell me you have zero wheel knowledge without telling me you have zero wheel knowledge," another claimed.
"EA is never gonna let me into their creator program which how much I bash their trash driver ratings," one fan wrote.
DTM Engineer gives his take on F1 world champion's test in the car
Emil Frey Racing's head of track engineering Graziano Michelacci was left stunned by Red Bull driver Max Verstappen's lap times in Thierry Vermeulen's Ferrari 296 DTM car at Mugello in a one-off race.
Speaking in the Dutch driver's documentary, 'Verstappen - Off The Beaten Track', Michelacci said (via RacingNews365):
"I usually know what to expect from certain drivers, but this was really unexpected. He improved his lap times in a way that doesn't exist in real life. Even if you expect something like this from Verstappen, you're still surprised. It's stories like that that you share later in the future when you're on the road with your friends in a van," Michelacci said.
While Vermuelen spoke about the quality that set the three-time F1 world champion apart, adding:
"Everyone can drive a fast lap at some point, but he is capable of it so quickly. Even though he is dealing with a new car, he can drive around the problems and use all his talent and experience to be fast right away," Vermuelen said.
