Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was left fuming after he failed to get out of the Q2 and the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix qualifying session on Sunday. The Dutch driver seemed to have everything under control during the session as he looked relatively comfortable in the wet conditions at the iconic Interlagos track.

The reigning three-time world champion was running in P12 on his Intermediate tires before the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll crashed in the final few minutes of the Q2 session. The FIA Race Director waited for over 30 seconds to deploy the red flag which stopped the session.

Max Verstappen, unfortunately, was caught out by the red flag and was unable to complete his fast lap, eventually finishing the session in P12. In his post-qualifying interview with Sky Sports, the 27-year-old expressed his frustration and said:

"The car hits the wall, it needs to be a straight red. I don't understand why it needs to take 30-40 seconds for a red flag to come out. It's just ********. Honestly, I let it go. It's so stupid anyway to talk about. It's ridiculous," Verstappen remarked.

Max Verstappen to start the race from P17 at the Brazilian GP

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen will start the Brazilian Grand Prix main race from P17 after his five-place grid penalty for taking a new internal combustion engine will be applied. on Sunday.

Every driver is allotted four ICEs for the entire season along with other power unit components. The Dutch driver would be running his sixth of the year at the Brazilian GP.

He had previously taken a 10-place grid penalty for taking another ICE at the Belgian GP before the summer break, and could only manage to finish in P5 after starting the race from P11.

Verstappen has looked competitive throughout the weekend as he was able to match the pace of the McLaren and the Ferraris. However, the 27-year-old will have his work cut out for the main race at Interlagos on Sunday, given his starting position.

The Red Bull driver would start the race alongside his archrival Lewis Hamilton, who finished P16 and would be looking for damage limitation from the weekend.
