F1 fans online were fuming after Sergio Perez crashed in the Q1 session of the British Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday. The Mexican driver is currently on a downward spiral in terms of performance and results in comparison to his teammate Max Verstappen.

Perez will start the main race on Sunday in P19 after he beached his RB20 in the Copse corner at Silverstone in the opening minutes of the qualifying session.

Perez was one of the first drivers to get onto the slick tires after the session started under damp conditions but was unable to catch the slide and got stuck in the gravel.

F1 fans on social media reacted to Sergio Perez's Q1 exit at the British GP. One fan called for RB driver Yuki Tsunoda to replace him in the car, writing on X (formerly Twitter):

"It’s time for Yuki to get his shot."

Another fan wrote:

"GET THIS MAN OUT OF F1!!!!!!

Here are a few other reactions from fans online:

"He needs to be out of that seat soon lmao," a fan wrote.
"Danny Ric boutta snatch that seat in seconds," another fan commented.
"Another stellar weekend from Perez," a fan opined.

Red Bull team boss gives his take on Sergio Perez's poor form

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner acknowledged that Sergio Perez was in a downward spiral in his form and claimed that they believed offering him a contract extension would have settled him for the season.

Speaking with Sky F1, Horner said (via Planet F1):

“At the point that you sign a driver, the contents of any agreement are not going to be disclosed to all of you lot. So it made absolute sense to sign Checo at that point in time, but you know, this is a business in which there are pressures to deliver."
“Obviously, Sergio has had a tough spell and his first five races were very competitive. The last five have been nowhere. And we want to see Sergio from the first five back. He knows that, he’s aware of that," he added.

Sergio Perez had previously failed to get out of Q1 in Monaco and Canada in the past 11 races and three Sprints so far in the 2024 season. He would start ahead of Alpine's Pierre Gasly on Sunday as the Frenchman had a 50-place grid penalty for changing his power unit components.
