James Vowles pointed out the key differences in the workings of Mercedes, where he previously worked, and Williams, where he currently works as their team principal. The two teams are largely different in their work because, for obvious reasons, the former is a multiple-time championship-winning team while the latter is still trying to pick itself up.

He discussed that Mercedes is much more organized than Williams, and this is because top teams like them have a rather constant staff and ways of working. Williams, on the other hand, is a historical team. They have won multiple world championships in the past but have been missing out lately and are at the bottom of the standings.

Because of this, Vowles revealed that top teams hire the best engineers from smaller teams like Williams:

"Mercedes had a well-organized structure. So you can imagine a larger team, with all the structures you can dream of, but also a lot of world champion experience. The pressure to win, to fight at a high level, everything was there, but everything was well organised."

He added:

"Williams doesn't have all of this, it doesn't have such solid foundations, partly because the top teams took the best engineers, even from Williams, so we had to reorganize what we had."

Vowles continued:

"Furthermore, we had to review the structures, the systems, the methodologies on which to build. Everyone has the same desire, to fight, whether you're fighting for a point or a win. But the desire is always the same: people put their lives into this passion called Formula 1."

Jost Capito was Williams' team principal, but after spending two seasons with the team, he stepped down from his responsibilities. It was then that James Vowles was called from Mercedes. He was the strategy director of the team and moved here as the team principal.

He revealed that he had expected quite a few things from Williams when moving here, such as weaknesses and other things. He added that the team has been missing capital investments for the past couple of seasons.

However, they are hardworking, and he is hoping that they can develop in the right direction. The team isn't pointless this season; however, they're still at the bottom of the table so far.
