Jos Verstappen, Max Verstappen's father, commented on his son becoming a father at the age of 27. He drew parallels with his own life as Jos also became a father at the age of 26.
The four-time world champion is currently at the peak of his career. At 27, he won four titles on the trot and led Red Bull Racing to extraordinary dominance. Before the end of the 2024 F1 season, he announced that his girlfriend, Kelly Piquet, is pregnant with his first child.
Kelly and Max have been dating for quite some time now, and their romance became public after the model made appearances during race weekends to support the Dutchman. She also has a four-year-old daughter, Penelope Kvyat, from her previous relationship.
With Verstappen set to become a father in 2025, his dad, Jos Verstappen, disclosed how he reacted to the news. Speaking to F1 Insider, he said:
"I am going to be a grandfather for the fourth time. My daughter Victoria already has three children. I am really happy, of course, and hope that everything will go well. It's a good fit. I was 26 when I became a father for the first time with him; he is now 27. There are certain parallels."
Max Verstappen earlier said that he was excited to welcome his child. He added that parenthood will be challenging, especially with a hectic F1 season coming up. However, the Dutch driver is happy and looking forward to the big change.
Kelly, meanwhile, has entered the third trimester of her pregnancy. She can likely give birth early this year. Meanwhile, the 2025 F1 season begins on March 14 with the Australian Grand Prix. Verstappen will be paired with a new teammate, Liam Lawson, as Sergio Perez was sacked following the end of the 2024 season.
Jos Verstappen comments on Max Verstappen's fourth title victory
Max Verstappen, ace Red Bull driver, won his fourth world championship in 2024. In a tightly fought battle, he beat Lando Norris by 63 points to clinch his fourth trophy in a row.
Jos Verstappen reflected on the past season and rated Max's latest championship victory. Talking to F1 Insider, he said:
"He was extremely good in 2023 too. But of course, 2024 was more difficult for him because the car wasn't the best in the field, and he therefore always had to drive at the limit. Without making any mistakes. He did that extremely well. He has always given 100 percent. But this year it was more noticeable. People noticed that Max can make the difference compared to others."
The 27-year-old Dutchman was competitive throughout the season. However, Red Bull's challenger, RB20, lacked consistency, pace, and stability. Despite the car's dropping standards, he managed to overcome the obstacles and defend his title.
