McLaren driver Lando Norris has sarcastically commented on his former teammate and William F1 driver Carlos Sainz's Instagram post from yesterday. The two drivers are preparing for the 2025 season in their own way given the Spanish driver will be moving to a new team and the Brit hopes to put a more consistent title charge next year.
The pair were teammates at the Woking-based outfit for two years in 2019 and 2020 and developed a friendly bond off the track. The two continued their dynamic after the Spaniard moved to Ferrari for four years from 2021 to 2024. Sainz posted a series of pictures of himself training for the 2025 season on Instagram, captioned:
"First week of training camp."
Norris noticed Sainz's cap which said "new era" and sarcastically questioned him in a comment that has gone viral and attracted over 45k likes.
"Did you wear that cap every day?" Lando Norris wrote.
The 30-year-old Carlos Sainz was quick to reply to his ex-teammate Lando Norris and said:
"I'll send you a signed one."
Norris is among the many who believe that Sainz would do well at the Grove-based outfit despite taking a potential step back in his career.
Lando Norris gives his take on Carlos Sainz's Williams move
As per F1.com, 25-year-old McLaren driver Lando Norris said after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last month that he believes that former Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz would be back at the top of the sport and could potentially take Williams higher on the grid in the coming years.
“Carlos is someone I know well and I've started racing in Formula 1 with Carlos. You always knew he was going to be there and he was always going to put up a good fight. He'll be back. Williams have been improving a lot. They've not had someone with a lot of genuine experience from a top team. Carlos will for sure add to that and propel the team forwards even more," Lando Norris said.
“2026 is a year where anything can happen. Williams can be at the top all of a sudden. So, we'll wait and see. But it's a shame because I think he has proven himself enough in Formula 1 that he deserves a good seat."
F1 will introduce new engine regulations in the 2026 season. New cars without DRS will be replaced by manual override. With both McLaren and Williams having Mercedes engines, Norris and Sainz could fight at the front of the grid.
