Lando Norris congratulated Max Verstappen following the Red Bull driver's victory in the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The race at Interlagos saw the Dutchman defy all odds and win from P17. On the other hand, Norris had a disastrous outing in Brazil, but he has graciously congratulated his rival on social media.

Verstappen delivered a mighty performance in treacherous conditions at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace last Sunday. The race saw five drivers suffer DNFs, and multiple drivers run wide in slippery conditions. The three-time world champion gradually improved his place and snatched the lead from Esteban Ocon, maintaining it till the end of the race.

Verstappen has always been very strong in rainy conditions. Those who doubted the class of his drive during the 2016 Brazilian GP, got to witness it again on a chaotic Sunday in 2024. As the Red Bull star delivered a masterclass, he increased his lead in the championship to 62 points.

Verstappen on Monday shared a photo of himself from Brazil, with the caption,

"This one was very special, A Sunday I'll never forget. Thank you, Brazil!"

Norris commented on the photo with praise for the Dutchman, saying,

"Nice drive mate."

This has come after the Dutch driver received a flood of texts and congratulatory messages from fellow drivers and sports persons. F1 stars Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso both congratulated and praised Verstappen on social media by commenting on the Red Bull driver's post.

Besides them, NASCAR driver Daniel Suarez also hailed Verstappen following his eighth GP win in 2024. The McLaren driver, meanwhile, had said that Red Bull had been "lucky" at the Brazilian GP, in a post-race interview.

Lando Norris had an underwhelming outing in Brazil. The McLaren star started the race on the pole but came home in P6. Following the race, Norris said that his team turned out to be "unlucky," while Verstappen and Red Bull got "lucky." Norris told the media:

"I have faith in the team in what they are saying and they have trust in me. It was just unlucky. I don't care about the hindsight side of things, that's luck for them, nothing more. They [Red Bull] got lucky on a rule that no one agrees with. Probably they agreed with it today but every driver has disagreed with it in the past.
"Today it benefitted them, it could have benefitted us if we just stayed out, but that's a stupid thing to think of. Just a bit unlucky today, nothing more. Of course, disappointing. [Max] drove well. He got a bit lucky but that's life."

Max Verstappen currently leads the drivers' championship with 393 points, followed by Lando Norris' 362. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc occupies P3 with 307 points.
