Fernando Alonso recently expressed his excitement about Adrian Newey joining the Aston Martin F1 team. Speaking at a press conference in Silverstone, the Spanish driver praised Lawrence Stroll's vision for the team, which is evident in the new facility and strategic hires.

The 42-year-old's tenure with Ferrari during the V8 era was marked by numerous title battles against cars designed by Newey. From 2010 to 2013, despite being part of the prestigious Maranello squad, the double champion was unable to overcome the dominance of Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull Racing.

Since joining Aston Martin, Alonso has consistently praised Stroll's foresight and ability to deliver on his ambitions. He believes that the partnership between Newey and Honda, set for 2025, will make Aston Martin a formidable force. Their new facility, equipped with a state-of-the-art wind tunnel, has garnered widespread admiration for showcasing the team's ambition and future trajectory.

Speaking at a press conference alongside Stroll and Newey, Alonso said,

“I would say he was an inspiration. I think, thanks to Adrian and his talent and cars, we all got better as drivers, as engineers, as teams. We all had to raise the bar thanks to him, to be able to compete. I think [it’s] an incredible day for the team. Lawrence’s vision is taking shape with this [new] building, with Adrian, with [future engine partner] Honda, with [strategic fuel partner] Aramco, with a new wind tunnel… Definitely the team of the future, I would say.”

Fernando Alonso relishes the opportunity to work with Adrian Newey in 2025 and beyond

With a contract at Aston Martin until the end of 2026, Fernando Alonso is excited to collaborate with Adrian Newey. Both the Spanish champion and the legendary British car designer have long admired each other's work, and their paths will finally converge. The former Red Bull Racing aero chief joining the Silverstone squad presents a thrilling opportunity for Alonso, one he is both excited and proud to embrace.

Here's what Alonso had to say about the opportunity:

“For me, it’s going to be an incredible opportunity, professionally, to work with Adrian and to keep wearing this green colour, which I’m very proud to be part of. I was talking with Lance a few weeks ago [about] the incredible opportunity we have to witness and to work with Lawrence and with everyone in Aston Martin, which we are definitely learning a lot of things [from], on track and off track as well, and it’s part of our growth.”

Aston Martin currently occupies the fifth position in the Constructors' Championship, while Alonso sits ninth in the Drivers' standings. However, the team's future trajectory is one to watch as they aspire to become a leading force in Formula 1. Newey will oversee a dream team that includes former Ferrari aero head Enrico Cardile as Chief Technical Officer, Dan Fallows as Chief Technical Director, and former Mercedes engine head Andy Cowell as CEO. Newey's move to Aston Martin is a significant blow to rivals like Ferrari, who will be partnering with Lewis Hamilton for 2025 and beyond.
