Lewis Hamilton has been announced as the brand ambassador of the iconic fashion brand Dior. The seven-time world champion is known for his bold looks in the paddock and is a key reason behind opening the doors of the F1 world for fashion.
He is often spotted wearing clothes of the biggest brands worldwide such as Valentino, Tommy Hilfiger, etc. With him joining a brand as well-known as Dior, which has a market cap of $121.8 billion, as per Yahoo Finance, that would surely help him solidify his status in the world of fashion as well.
The Brit will work with Kim Jones on his line centered around snowboarding and skiing, and turn them into active lifestyle wear by making clothes such as denim pants, sweatshirts, and tweeds. While speaking about the collaboration to WWD, Lewis Hamilton reflected:
“We’ve both been talking a lot about Africa. Some of the fabrics were made in Burkina Faso. We’re working with someone who’s helping us source sustainable fabrics throughout the continent and really looking at what we can do to help get the next generation of people.
“I wanted to bring vibrancy, I wanted to figure out how to do something a little bit different to what Dior does so well. It’s very comfortable. It’s definitely more relaxed.” he added.
Lewis Hamilton chimes in about his fashion in the F1 paddock
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton stated that his clothes and fashion for the paddock need a 'lot of planning' beforehand and allow him to work with the designers that he admires.
As per WWD, the 39-year-old said:
"There’s a lot of planning. It’s ultimately looking at brands that I admire. I try to collaborate with designers, and they come up with custom pieces, which is always awesome. In the different locations I go to, I love to utilize my platform to highlight up-and-coming designers as well.
"There’s a lot of options but I only have four days, there’s only so much you can wear to the track. And then I have to get back into the [team’s racing] kit. I wish there was more days.”
Lewis Hamilton further reflected that the weather makes "a big difference too". He claimed that while he races in Bahrain and the Middle East and worn some really warm clothing and felt like dying for the 30 seconds he was walking down to the track, the sacrifice was worth it as "the price of fashion.”
The seven-time world champion has also been influential in getting Tommy Hilfiger to sponsor the Mercedes F1 team as he shares good relations with the latter and has been an ambassador of the brand. However, the mega fashion brand would be ending its partnership with the German team at the end of the 2024 season, same as Hamilton.
