Former Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has broken the Internet with his latest social media post as his Ferrari stint officially begins on January 1, 2025. The seven-time F1 world champion announced his move to the Italian team last year in February and shocked the world of motorsports.

Ahead of signing his contract extension with Mercedes in August 2023, there were rumors linking him to a move to Maranello but it never materialized. However, he decided to activate his release clause at the end of 2024 and made the switch to the Prancing Horses.

On the first day of his new stint in the sport, Lewis Hamilton posted a picture, which got over 1.3 million likes, from his karting days where he was seen wearing a red racing helmet and even put a red racing car emoji on his caption.

Speaking with Sky F1, Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur realized that everyone was excited to see Hamilton in the red overalls of the team but claimed that they as a partnership have to turn the page after the initial excitement dies down, saying, via Motorsportweek:

“Everybody all over the world is excited and for sure, the mechanics are also excited, but because it’s always exciting to have someone who is a seven-times World Champion into the car. But I think after day one, we’ll have to turn this page and to be focused on the job."

Former F1 champion expresses his views on Lewis Hamilton's switch to Ferrari

Former F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve believed that the Ferrari F1 team had to provide Lewis Hamilton with the "right car" during his stay with them.

As per GrandPrix247, the 2025 season could be tough for the British driver as he has had no involvement in the development of the car, saying:

“He needs the right car. He’s had no involvement in the development of this Ferrari car, whereas he did at Mercedes, and maybe that’s why it became tough for him. You could argue it may have been an extra weight for him to carry. At Ferrari, he’ll arrive knowing he’s had no involvement in the car for 2025.
"I think that will make it a little bit easier as he’ll have time to adapt and can then make the car his. It seems as if he needs to be loved, but I don’t know him well enough. It just seems he’s very receptive to external noise, both positive and negative."

Lewis Hamilton would join the Italian team on a multi-year deal and race alongside Charles Leclerc at least until the end of the 2026 season. The duo would hope to bring silverware back to Maranello for the first time since 2008.
