Lewis Hamilton had a suggestion for Stefano Domenicali after the FIA postponed Saturday's qualifying for the 2024 Brazilian GP. The F1 governing body canceled the session due to torrential rain in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Following that, Hamilton had a suggestion for the F1 chief.
Due to hours of rain in the Sao Paulo region of the Latin American country, the FIA decided to cancel the Qualifying session for the day and postpone it to Sunday. This came after torrential rain hampered the start of Q1, forming a pool of water on track.
The race was supposed to start at 15:00 local time. However, 17:00 passed, and it was getting dark, which forced the authorities to choose an alternative. As things stand, the Qualifying will take place just hours ahead of the main race on Sunday.
Amid this, Lewis Hamilton met with Stefano Domenicali in front of the Mercedes garage. This was when the Mercedes driver shared his suggestion on wet tires to the F1 boss. This is what he said:
“You should’ve sent us out, this is ridiculous, we should go out! I wanna go out! If you give us better wet tyres or blankets we'd be able to run in this!”
The session has been canceled after the 2024 F1 Brazilian GP Sprint took place earlier on Saturday. Lando Norris claimed the victory, ahead of Oscar Piastri and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
FIA released its statement on F1 Brazilian GP qualifying
Soon after the FIA decided to postpone the session for the day, it released a statement assuring fans that the Qualifying time for Sunday would be decided as soon as possible.
“The decision was taken due to the lack of visibility caused by the level of rain we have experienced in the past few hours. There is a lot of standing water on parts of the circuit which renders conditions unsafe," the statement read.
"As much as we would all like to see competition on track, the safety of drivers, team members, volunteers, officials, and spectators is our main priority. A decision on a start time for qualifying tomorrow morning will be taken as soon as possible.”
The 2024 Brazilian GP is set to be the 21st race of the 2024 F1 season, and one of the most important race weekends, in part because of the presence of Sprint.
