In another dig at his rival Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton claimed that the Red Bull driver would have disobeyed team orders in Hungary. The race in Budapest had quite a few storylines, with one of them being the team orders that McLaren was forced to issue to Lando Norris.

Before the second round of pitstops, Oscar Piastri was leading teammate Lando Norris by a second on the track. To cover for Lewis Hamilton's undercut attempt, McLaren opted to give Lando the preference in the pitstop and brought him in a lap earlier than Oscar.

This led to the drivers swapping places after the pitstop as Lando was now leading the race with Oscar behind. After much back and forth, Lando would cede position to his teammate and the Australian would win. The question was put forward to Lewis Hamilton in the build-up to the F1 Hungarian GP where he was asked what he would have done in this situation.

The driver did admit that he would have done what the team told him to but surprisingly, he also mentioned Max Verstappen and said that he would have disobeyed the orders. As reported by motorsportweek, the driver said,

"It’s not my call to make. I mean, if that was Max, he wouldn’t have let him pass. I don’t know what to say. It’s not for me to decide. If I was in that situation, I would do what the team asked me to do, as hard as it is. Ultimately, because it’s not about you. It’s about the 2,000 people that you’re representing and working with.”

Not the first time Lewis Hamilton took a dig at Max Verstappen

This is not the first time this weekend that Lewis Hamilton has taken a jibe at Max Verstappen. Earlier this weekend, the Mercedes driver had a few words to say about the driver's conduct on the team radio in Hungary as well.

Lewis was questioned on what advice he would give Max Verstappen on managing himself and the team as Red Bull transitions from being a dominant force in F1 to one that faces stern competition every weekend. The driver felt that one has to act like a team leader as well as a team member. He would then further add that Max didn't act like a champion in Hungary. He said,

“You have to be as a team leader, as a team member. Maybe not such a team leader, but more so [you’ve got to be] a teammate with lots of people and you have to act like a world champion. Not like it was last weekend!"

While Max has more or less opted not to entertain these comments in general, it would be interesting to see how long these jibes last from Lewis and if they compel Max to respond.
