Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he liked F1's pre-race introductions for all the drivers ahead of the Miami GP on Sunday.
To cater to over 100,000 spectators in Miami along with high-profile celebrities, F1 hired American singer LL Cool J to do driver introductions as they made their way to the grid.
Many drivers, like Hamilton's teammate George Russell and reigning double world champion Max Verstappen, were not enthused. However, speaking to Motorsport.com, Hamilton was quick to give his nod of approval. He said:
“I think it is cool that the sport is continuously growing and evolving and not just doing the same stuff that they’ve done in the past. They are trying new things; they are trying to improve the show, and I am in full support of it.
"I grew up listening to LL Cool J, and he was there, that was cool, and then you look over, and you’ve got Will.i.am. who is an incredible artist. You’ve got Serena and Venus (Williams) standing there. I thought it was cool, no issue from me.”
"He's loyal, but I don't think he's got the options that he would want" - Jenson Button on Lewis Hamilton
Former world champion Jenson Button has said that Lewis Hamilton will not go anywhere apart from Mercedes, as he's loyal but also noted that he doesn't have the options.
As per The Mirror, he said:
"Well, he's loyal, but I also don't think he's got the options that he would want. I don't really think he would have the option at Red Bull – I don't think he would be the right fit alongside Max (Verstappen). I don't think he'd be at Ferrari. Aston Martin? Definitely won't be going to Aston Martin – they've got two seats that are going to be filled there for a little while. I think his future will be at Mercedes, but he is also a loyal character, and it's good to see him going through some tough times with that team."
Button continued:
"I think they will come out the other side together, you know? It's a rollercoaster in Formula 1, especially when you've been on top for that long, there's going to be a dip. But if you can stay with that team, they will rise to the top again – he's not going to retire."
It will be fascinating to see how Lewis Hamilton fares this season.
