Seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton fears that fans might be losing interest in the sport and has called for some action to pique their interest in the sport again.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen clinched his third consecutive championship in Qatar and has been the dominant driver in the past couple of years. Red Bull Racing, along with Verstappen, are on track to break multiple Formula One records this year.
Lewis Hamilton feels this is having a negative impact on the fans. Hamilton has urged Formula One officials to make modifications which would allow closer races between the drivers.
“Within our sport we need to continue to work to ensure we have closer races, because I believe that this year interest on social media has decreased enormously," Hamilton said. (via FormulaPassion. It)
"Obviously this has a big impact on the competition. People want to see that. So we have to make sure we are making the right decisions, or that the governing body is making the right decisions, to keep us close and in a big battle all the way to the end," he added.
He also discussed the possibility of reduced ticket costs to make Formula One races more accessible for the fans.
"We need more grandstands. I don't know if we need to reduce ticket prices as well, but maybe," Hamilton said.
However, it appears that they will not act ahead of the next set of regulations, which will be implemented in F1 starting in 2026. Teams will not be able to work on their new single-seaters until January 2025, according to Auto Motor and Sport.
Lewis Hamilton hasn't won a Grand Prix since Abu Dhabi 2021. He had a second-place finish in Austin but was disqualified after his Mercedes failed a plank inspection.
Lewis Hamilton is set to release his own brand of non-alcoholic drink
The Mercedes star is set to launch his new non-alcoholic drink called ‘Almave’. Almave has the same manufacturing process as tequila except the fermentation process, which turns liquid into alcohol.
“I’ve always loved tequila for its taste, but there are times when I don’t want the alcohol part of the deal and I know that there is a growing group of people who want the same," Hamilton said. (via sportsillustrated)
The drink goes on sale in the United States on Thursday, October 26 and will be available for international sales from 2024.
