American Olympic medalist in fencing Miles Chamley Watson claimed that Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton would be "good" at fencing. The seven-time F1 world champion is arguably one of the best drivers in the sport's history and has multiple records to his name.
The British driver also enjoys other sports in his off time and was spotted during the Paris Olympics by the side of his friend Chamley Watson. In a recent Q&A session, the 2016 bronze medalist fencer believed that Lewis Hamilton would be "good" at the former's sport as well and gave a very specific reason, saying:
"Lewis. Hand-eye coordination, he's nuts, fearless and he wants to beat me so he'd be the best."
When asked if he had fenced with Hamilton, the American replied by saying, "not yet" but believed that the F1 legend could learn, adding:
"He's good at everything. It's annoying how good he is at everything. Snowboarding, Golf, Surfing."
In an interview last year with Olympic.com ahead of the Paris Olympics, Lewis Hamilton delved into his friendship with Chamley Watson and said:
"So, I have a really good friend, Miles Chamley-Watson, who’s competing in fencing. We’ve been supporting each other all the time, and we talk pretty much every day. So, I know how hard he’s been working, and I would love to be with him on that."
In his almost decade-long career, Hamilton has raced for iconic teams like Mercedes, and McLaren and will race for Ferrari in 2025.
Former F1 world champion gives a warning to Lewis Hamilton ahead of his move to Ferrari
Former F1 world champion Mika Hakkinen advised Lewis Hamilton that if he believed he was losing his edge, he had to speak up and inform the team.
Speaking with PlanetF1, the Finn pointed out that he was not aware of the 39-year-old's issues but reflected that he faced something similar in his career:
“What’s happening with Lewis is impossible to comment on. What’s happening in his mind and what’s happening at the moment? Why is the performance not there 100 percent? I’m not the right person to answer for that – it’s Lewis.
"If something similar has happened to him, he has to speak. He’s the right person to answer that, but he has committed now for the future. So, I’m sure he will work on it to get things right for this year.”
Lewis Hamilton's performances were called into question several times in the 2024 season due to the inconsistent nature of his results against his then-Mercedes teammate George Russell in the same car.
The British driver had a deficit of 19-5 in qualifying over an entire season with his young compatriot and lagged behind Russell generally in the main races as well.
