Lewis Hamilton recently reacted to a fan-made video of himself showcasing his race and championship wins during his glory years in F1 with Mercedes. The video was posted as an Instagram reel, on which the seven-time world champion commented.
The video particularly featured Lewis Hamilton driving the Mercedes W11. This was Hamilton's 2020 F1 car, with which he won his last world championship. He won the title by clinching 11 race wins and 10 pole positions in the season.
In the caption of the video, the fans wrote that they miss the W11 that dominated the field back in 2020. The video had a purple hue to it and the popular song, After Hours, from Canadian rapper The Weeknd.
While there are many fan-made video edits on social media, this particular one caught Hamilton's eye on Instagram. The Mercedes star liked the Instagram reel and also commented on it with a heart emoji. The creator of the video replied to Hamilton's reaction and stated how his comment made them cry out of sheer happiness.
Hamilton has been in the sport for quite a while now. The British driver started racing in F1 in 2007 with McLaren and won his first race in the same year in Canada. He then went on to win his first world championship in 2008, beating his teammate Fernando Alonso.
Over the years, he has impressed millions of motorsport fans and has a massive following on and off social media.
Lewis Hamilton surprised at the sudden surge in performance at the Belgian GP
After a subpar on-track performance on Friday and Saturday race sessions at Spa, Lewis Hamilton was surprised to see how the Mercedes W15 found pace in Sunday's Grand Prix.
Speaking in the post-race interview on F1TV, Hamilton expressed his surprise and explained how the car's performance suddenly took a 180-degree turn after Friday and Saturday. He later praised the on-track and factory team for working hard and allowing Mercedes to bag a 1-2 finish at Spa.
"We had such a disaster on Friday. The car was really nowhere. We made some changes, hard to see what it was going to feel like because of the wet yesterday, but the car was fantastic today and we really owe it to everyone, both here doing a solid job with pit stops and strategy, and the guys back at the factory," Hamilton said.
Though Mercedes' George Russell bagged the victory with Lewis Hamilton finishing second, they later learned that Russell's W15 was 1.5 kilos underweight and was disqualified. Hence, they lost the 1-2 finish, and the win was inherited by Hamilton.
