Lewis Hamilton's positive comments on former Mercedes CTO Mike Elliott resurfaced on social media recently. This comes amid rumors that the two could reunite at Ferrari in the 2025 season.
Elliott left the Brackley squad in October 2023 after working with them for more than a decade. His contribution during the team's dominant period between 2014 and 2021 was monumental. While he is currently on gardening leave, he is expected to join another F1 team by 2025.
Motorsport Italia recently reported that he might be making his way to Ferrari when his period of leave ends. This could mean a reunion with Lewis Hamilton, who is set to join the Italian team next season. Amidst this, the latter's comments from 2023 have resurfaced on social media. In the clip, Hamilton talked about the time he spent working with Elliott during his F1 career.
"I'm definitely sad to see Mike go," Lewis Hamilton said (at 0:15). "I've known him since my McLaren days. Before I raced from McLaren, he was there, raced with him and I've had a great relationship with Mike. And loved working with him. Within his team, he was such an intelligent individual."
The 39-year-old also said that he learned a lot from Elliott.
"I learned a lot from him. And, you know, it's been his decision to move on and do something different. And I wish him absolutely all the best. And I'm super grateful for all his contribution over these years. I know whatever he's going to do next is going to be great because he's got a super brain," he concluded.
Lewis Hamilton is set to leave Mercedes at the end of this season. He has been racing with the team since 2013.
Frederic Vasseur, Ferrari team principal, is optimistic that Hamilton can make a big impact with the Prancing Horse.
Ferrari team boss optimistic about Lewis Hamilton arrival in 2025
Lewis Hamilton is one of the most successful drivers in the history of Formula 1. He continues to battle competitively at the top. Claiming two wins so far this season, he has extended the record for most F1 wins to 105.
After Hamilton's win in Belgium (he was promoted to race winner after George Russell was disqualified), Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur spoke about the Brit's potential impact.
"We certainly know the positive aspects of Lewis' arrival, such as his great experience," Vasseur told Sky Italia. "Everyone since the beginning of the season has said that Russell is faster than him, but at the moment he is the one who has brought more points to Mercedes. So in terms of efficiency, I think he is a good point of reference."
Ferrari looked strong at the start of the season, however, their performances took a dip before the summer break. Further developments in the season could help them get back to competing with the likes of Red Bull Racing, Mercedes, and McLaren.
