Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff's wife Susie Wolff claimed that Lewis Hamilton worked "incredibly hard" off the track before heading to the race weekends as she broke one of the misconceptions surrounding the driver. The Brit is statistically the most successful driver in F1 history with 105 wins and 104 pole positions alongside his record-equaling seven world championships.
He has enjoyed a dominant period with the German brand under the leadership of Toto Wolff which saw him win six of his seven driver's titles from 2014 to 2020. Given his popularity and personality, the Mercedes driver is a busy man as he often travels across the globe to keep up with his business ventures in entertainment and fashion, apart from racing.
Due to his packed schedule, many have presumed that Lewis Hamilton just 'rocks up' to an F1 weekend and delivers on the track. But while appearing on the Red Flags podcast, Susie Wolff, who had competed with the 39-year-old in their junior days, said:
"I remember even at the age of 8 how he was outstanding. Quite often you have this perception of Lewis from a distance that he just rocks up, jumps in [..] but he works incredibly hard off track at every aspect of his life. And he's absolutely dedicated to being the best racing driver he can be!"
In the podcast, the 41-year-old delved deep into her dynamic with Hamilton and spoke about her admiration for her former rival.
Susie Wolff chimes in on her 'admiration' for Lewis Hamilton
Former Williams F1 driver Susie Wolff stated that her dynamic with Lewis Hamilton meant a lot for her as she had seen him ascend into becoming the 'Greatest of All Time'. She said in the podcast:
"The relationship with Lewis means a lot. What I appreciate so much about Lewis and having seen him over the years become the greatest of all time. I admire him so much because he's also been able to use his voice and his power to do so much positive in this sport and to have so much impact."
"He has brought so much culture into Formula 1. He has done so much for this sport...he definitely deserves all the adulation and the accolades that he has. As much I'm sad in a way that he's going to end his journey with Ferrari, I think it will be an iconic moment to see lewis in a Ferrari race suit next season."
Lewis Hamilton will be joining the Ferrari F1 team at the beginning of the 2025 season as he ended his 26-year-long association with the Mercedes brand. The British driver signed a multi-year deal with the Italian team that would see him race for them at least till the end of the 2026 season alongside Charles Leclerc.
