DJ Martin Garrix shared a picture of Red Bull driver Max Verstappen in which he appeared drunk after celebrating his fourth championship win in Las Vegas last year. The Dutch kept his cool under enormous pressure in the second half of last year when his RB20's performance dropped off and he faced a stiff challenge from McLaren driver, Lando Norris.
After overcoming a difficult first half of the season, Max Verstappen finished ahead of the British driver to win his fourth successive driver's championship at the Las Vegas GP.
Martin Garrix, a world-renowned DJ and close friend of the Red Bull driver, was present in Vegas to celebrate the feat with the latter. In a series of '2024 highlights' photos shared on January 11 on his Instagram handle, Garrix showcased an image of a seemingly drunk Verstappen in his title celebrations and wrote:
"The only photo I can publicly share after pulling an all-nighter and heading home with Max in Vegas after the race."
In the 2024 season, Max Verstappen failed to win in the following 10 race weekends after tasting victory in Spain. However, he was able to reverse his fortunes after putting in an excellent drive in the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix where he won after starting from P17 which gave a huge boost to his championship hopes.
Max Verstappen opens up on his first meeting with Martin Garrix
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen said that he and Martin Garrix first interacted in 2014 when the latter was presenting him with an award. The four-time F1 title winner disclosed that he became friends with Garrix only after a trip to Ibiza years later as the award ceremony had taken place online, preventing the two from meeting in person.
In an interview with F1 Magazine last year, Verstappen said:
"In 2014, I received the Young Talent Award at the NOCNSF sports gala. Martin presented the award to me virtually, but it was completely a mess at that time because I was in a taxi in England with Redbull team and the live connection kept dropping out haha! After that, we had a little contact and I spontaneously met him on holiday in Ibiza. And we actually just clicked well."
Reflecting on their busy lives, Verstappen added that he was pleased to have spent some time with his friend in France amid their hectic schedule.
"Earlier this year we spent a week in Saint-Tropez. Nice and relaxed. I think that was also a kind of detox for him as well, a bit of recovery from his busy work schedule and life.."
Martin Garrix is often spotted in the F1 paddock cheering on his compatriot during race weekends, while also maintaining friendly relations with other drivers such as Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo.
