Max Verstappen's father Jos has revealed why he was forced to withdraw from the Legend's parade during the F1 Austrian GP. The Dutch driver and former F1 racer was supposed to take part in the parade that is to be held during the Austrian GP race weekend and was supposed to drive the Red Bull RB8, a car that Sebastian Vettel won his 2012 F1 championship in. However, he was forced to cancel his participation in the last minute.
Max Verstappen's father would then go on to give soundbites to multiple Dutch publications where he claimed that Christian Horner was responsible for his withdrawal. Talking to Viaplay, Jos claimed that he didn't go ahead because he got to know that Horner was trying everything possible to stop him from taking part.
The 52-year-old also concerningly claimed that he had been told by his source to be careful about the brakes of the car. He said:
"I think it's a shame, I would have really liked it, too. I also prepared for it, I have all the stuff with me. But when I heard how everything went and how it was thwarted. Then I was like, 'If there is so much opposition from someone within our team, I don't have to do it'."
He added:
"From what I heard, is that he did everything he could to stop me. And that I should just watch out if that thing should brake as well. I think that's pretty serious to put it that way."
Max Verstappen's father comments on Christian Horner's claims of wanting peace
Jos Verstappen also took aim at Christian Horner's recent comments, where he talked about keeping calm within the team. The political battles within the team were out in the open, and it left the team fractured very early in the season. There was one faction that had Max Verstappen, Helmut Marko, and Jos Verstappen; the other faction had Christian Horner.
With things settling down a bit, a sense of calm was starting to prevail within Red Bull. According to Jos Verstappen, with his actions, Horner has said something and done completely the opposite. He said,
"For someone who leads the team and wants to create peace within the team, I do find this very punishing. How should I deal with that when you hear this? That doesn't work a positive advantage for him."
Max Verstappen has been impressive in 2024 as he looks to win a fourth successive F1 World Championship. He is currently the table topper, with 227 points to his name. The Dutchman has won seven out of ten races so far this season. He recently claimed pole position in the Austrian GP qualifying
